Anyone know why water would be leaking out of the red circle here? My water wasn't getting hot this morning so I took a look at the pan through the AC vent area (shitty trailer) and it was half full of water. I used my shop vac to suck it out and it quickly started filling up. So I pulled the wall off that hides the water heater and noticed the leak. I know absolutely nothing about water heaters. I turned the breaker and valve off. It wasn't warm at all, cold even, so I assume the heating element was fucked from the leak?
Replacing the whole unit won't be problem or anything I'm just curious what you guys have to say about it. The unit is about five years old. Sorry I don't have more to go on. I only took some video then put the wall back up with just a few screws so my cats wouldn't get into the fucking thing or end up knocking the panel over and breaking the shitty material. I can take it back off if need be but there isn't much to see.

remove the small cover and see if it is leaking around the element. replace the element or tighten it. can't help without pictures.

The thermometer shows at about 140 but I can assume that is because it's fucked and the breaker is off, yes? I'd rather not burn the place down just yet. The labels on my breaker box aren't the most trustworthy so I turned off both labeled furnace and water heater.

Appreciate it, anon. That puts me at ease. I know this is DIY and all but I'm honestly paranoid to fuck with such things so I guess I will just call somebody. I'm approved for like 20k in credit from one of the places so I'm not too worried about the cost considering the whole unit is like $500 from what I saw. I'm sure they'll Jew me for.thr labor but better than doing something stupid and dying somehow.

Wonderful. I had to install a rheem that is now seven years old. BTW they aren't real rheems, if you purchase them yourself - they're mexican or some other 3rd world shit. Only licensed plumbers can get the real ones.

Not OP, but I'll take that advice, before I end up in the same boat. I've gotta mention that my house had two previous water-heaters. Each lasted 21 years with no service.

It came with the trailer and this trailer is a piece of shit so I am sure it is fake. It's my girlfriend's. She's an idiot and bought it about 6 years ago and it's falling apart. She was desperate and didn't even bother to have her dad or anyone go with her to check it out. By the time it's paid off I imagine the floors will be caving in.

Something something about the Home Depot Rheems and the warranty is nothing like the 10 year warranty you get when you pay somebody $3000 to install it.

I have no idea if there’s any truth behind it, but I have heard something similar once before, but it was a plumber trying to make a sale so take it with a grain of salt.

Because many of us fall into the 5% who like learning about things that can make a difference. I didn't know the anode existed until someone mentioned it here, and when I replaced mine, the old one was almost gone.

I still feel like there’s going to be some other stipulation, like the plumbing contractor says “12 months on labor”. So if your plumber-installed Rheem starts leaking after 4 years, they say “well you’re lucky, the $1000 in parts is covered under warranty but the $1400 in labor is due right now”

I've never worried about the warranty on a water heater. I've installed 3 in my lifetime. All of them have lasted at least 10 years. If a manufacturer puts a 10+ year warranty on something there is a 99.999% chance that it will last as long as they say. if it is going to fail it's within the first year.

OP here. They tried to get me to pay $1900 to replace the thing so I just did it myself with a bit of guidance despite my pussy attitude towards it. Saved me $1300. Just tested the water and everything seems to be working good. Now what can I do with this old water heater aside from hauling it to the scrap yard for chump change?

If that is a pic of the upper element cover, rust appears to begin above the element itself. Could be leaking from a bad fitting on the top of the tank and then dripping down in the thermostat and connections, eventually killing them.

Check the plumbing connections before replacing electrical parts or the new ones will just rust again.
