What materials are best? I’m leaning towards plastic, at least on the bottom, because it seems easier to clean.
Any experiences?

Super.
Why should your materials selection be in any way influenced by the selections made by an entire centuries-old industry engaged in fierce competition to serve some of the most demanding consumers of any market?

You can buy a decent tent for less than $100 online. If you don't want to spend that much then learn to make shelters.

It doesn't matter, OP will never even try to make one.

I don't think you understand.
It's gotten to the point where "waterproofed, ripstop Nylon" is simply "the answer."
Op or you or anyone is going to have to try really hard to justify a different material.
I personally tink Tyvek has potentially. But only in specific circumstances. And it would require VERY different manufacturing processes. So it's not a general answer to the imbecilic, sniveling mumble: i wanna build a tent

I used a rubberized cotton for the bottom and the lower 20cm (8in) of the side walls. Keeps out the moisture from the ground.
This bottom connects straight to a sheer nylon inner tent. The outer tent is a thick cotton, not watertight on its own, but if the tent is set taught it carries all the water down the sides and onto the ground.

Uses a steel tube frame, off the shelf bits.

depends on how light you want to make it.
billboard vinyl is burly and works well for tent floors. but basic 400d - 600d nylon is the standard for most manufacturers. poly is more expensive but can be much lighter in weight and thickness. Silnylon is light and if youre trying to shed weight works well. tyvek will eventually suck up water if abraded but works for solo single use. i have a few bivys i made out of tyvek, its cheap and sewable. plastic tarp is permeable and will let water in but is the cheapest. lined with some plastic 1 mil which are both sewable and can be seam sealed is the cheapest alternative.
