Why did I choose welding as a trade, I fell for the meme didn't I?

Take your time frogposter. Take longer for prep than you normally do. I was nervous as shit the first time I did a bridge.

600lbs is nothing. Even the shittiest booger welds could hold that. Don't stress about it much, just do a good job and you'll be fine.

OP here, my retard superviser had a seethe because I was taking too much time to prep and fit and told me to fuck off, not like I give a fuck because I was planning to quit today, this shitty weld shop was a total hazzard anyway. They use throiated tungsten and the whole shop is contaminated because they sharpen them on a bench grinder, plus hve a laser welder and don't have a containment room for it,

Human Resources cutie told me it the superviser is a pain in the ass and I am the third welder that leaves in two months.

What a retard. Making sure your prep is perfect is the equivalent to measure twice cut once.

btw, it was a 6 meter x 1 meter structure with four ties to the wall, two at the bottom two at the top, but I had to join two 3 2" x 4" because they asked me to reuse old material. I don't think one day and a half to measure, design, select material, clean it, take off other welded bits, cut (stupid table saw couldn't cut the whole beam in one pass) prep, and fit was too much was it? I had to do half of all cuts by hand.

OR am I really useless as a welder? :(

It's useless as an artifact, you can't do anything fun with it.

you see the first two or 3 numbers in an electrode's designation- 6010, 7018, 11018M, etc? Those refer to thousands of PSI tensile strength. Meaning that 7018 rods can support 70,000 pounds of applied pressure. It's why test coupons can bend like horseshoes without cracking.

A 4 inch long, 1/4" lap weld that supports 600 lbs of static weight requires less than 2% of the length of the weld to be sound. Basically, if you can tack the 2 pieces together it ought to hold. You can absolutely goober it and it will be fine.

>>2607017
>Hurry up anon! Mr. Noseberg told me he'll start using lube if we can ship the unit today!

I'm not sure who's the bigger faggot, the dumbfuck quota chasing supervisor or you, for crying to HR instead of flipping him off and rockstar quitting.

>>2607132
this guy has a good point... maybe programming is more your speed (don't forget your programming socks, princess)

>>2607133
depends on the tolerances they want. If it's just to ship something, or you're working at a trailer shop in some hick town, you're an autistic faggot who needs to be institutionalized. If you're working to some kind of QA standard, that's perfectly reasonable and you should have knocked out your supervisor (they always threaten to file charges but never do).

Anyways you sound like a European which is to say, you're a pussy. Man up and stop crying like a faggot bitch on the internet. Welding is prison rules i.e. being prepared to fight anyone at any time if they fuck with your shit.

>600lbs
Do you know what the 60 on a 6013 rod means?
It stands for 60,000 psi, so your structure will hold from a single weld a tenth of an in on each across.
did you make a typo? was it meant to be 6000lbs?

No, these fucks hired me to do production GMAW and GTAW welding on thin gauge stainless and carbon steel pieces for medical equipment. They wanted me to weld this structure using 16 (or 18, i don't remeber) gauge PTR 2x4 tubing with 1/8 7018 rods, they even asked me to tack it so I didn't blew through.

They even ordered me to do the design and wanted me to climb on a forklift and a wood pallet. All for slightly above third world minimum wage.

Fuck these cunts
