"stands are not to be used to simultaneously support both ends of a vehicle."

Why not? I've used 4 to support my truck many times. How do people fuck this one up?

That warning is only for hyper tough and similar bad jack stands which can't hold their rated capacity.
It can hold half the capacity granted most of the weight is on the ground still

Op is stupid

They're all the same. When it comes to jackstands, harbor freight is as good as hein-werner.
Those warnings are for people who are oblivious to the dynamics of structural integrity.

Stability. If the ground is not completely level, or there’s a gust of wind, or a light earthquake, or a truck passing, or someone bumps into it, the vehicle can parallelogram over and flatten you.
With braked wheels or blocks under at least part of it, this already slight risk is much lower

>> No.2596738

>>2596326
They kind of suck. I use old rims and wooden cribbing. For truck stands I copy the self-service salvage classic of a vertical rim nested in a horizontal rim them tack welded for convenient handling (if want there is no need to join them).

Rims and wooden cribbing are safely stable on dirt. Do that with a jack stand (unless you weld it inside a steel rim which makes a nice load spreader).

>>2596624
So drain it. USB borescopes are cheap and fun for many tasks.

I didn't mean people are afraid of it because of "your sensitive masculinity" Jesus christ

I have a project I'm working on right now in my living room: curtains and an upholstered cornice/valance.
I went out and bought a sewing machine ... and I've literally done every single possible side project for the last three weeks to avoid starting the sewing part.
Because I've never used one before and it scares me.
Not fear of injury or fragile masculinity or anything, but just because I don't know how to use it.
I figured others might be in the same boat as me: afraid of it.

>harbor freight is as good as hein-werner.
Thats why Harbor Freight recalled their jack stands which were collapsing and maiming people right?

The warnings are just reaffirmations of their deceptive marketing
Those "2 ton" jack stands are rated to 2 tons "for the pair" "with 2 wheels on the ground"
Thats why they are sold in twin packs, never in single packs, and are explicit in their marketing.

Good jack stands are rated per stand, not per pair.

Got an old school all metal machine from my grandma. I had to make a cable for it since they're not manufactured since the 70s or 80s. I learned then how to sew and fixed many pieces of clothing I would've thrown out if I didn't know how to sew.
Ive also started to make some pouches, holders, straps for tools I use often and want to keep on me or on my backpack

>there is a potential, while under load and with a shift in weight
As I said, the problem is retards who don't understand physics. Go try to get away with abusing your fancier jackstand and see what happens.

>> No.2597411

The jacks aren't the problem.
Even the cheapest shittiest chinese jacks will hold 2-3 tons each, and the load a car puts on them is like half a ton.
The issue is that the car could be tipped off the jacks with yourself under it.
It's not gonna tip easily, it will take significant force, but it's possible.
Anyone sane will just toss some scrap wood or spare wheels under the car next to the jacks and not worry about it.

Hell I've had a 90 F-350 dually spray rig sitting on four jack stands I bought from the Cummins tool sale for a while now. Surprised I haven't killed everyone within a 100 mile radius.

Did you guys ever have a Cummins tool sale or something similar in your area? It was a traveling tool sale that brought cheap HF quality tools to your local town and they would set up in a public building and sell stuff for a couple days before packing up and moving to the next place. Basically carnies selling tools! There was some decent shit though. Just like HF you had to handle stuff and determine whether it was serviceable or the worst of the cheap Chinese crap!
