If an envelope appeared on your door step one day filled with instructions to build something, with claims that you are uniquely qualified to make it and you'll be paid upon completion, would you do it?

If it's something easy and cheap, I might... but then why claim that I'm "uniquely qualified"? If it takes a lot of work and/or expensive materials, then why would I accept a promise of payment from some anonymous individual without some form of advance?

This happened to me once. Plans were incomprehensible but not absolute schizo babble so I was intrigued. I built it, turned it on, and the box hummed for a few minutes and then stopped doing whatever it was doing. Anonymous author compensated me handsomely but now everyone talks about some communist politician named Mandela.
