I used cashapp the past few years but creditkarma recommended (partnered) with TurboTax this year so I tried them. went through the whole process, got to the very end to submit then "oh it looks like you sold stock (literally $40 worth)! this isnt covered in the free version, pay $200 to continue". no warning at the beginning, no warning after putting in the 1099s, only right at the end once you've already given them all of your data to sell. fuck those shyster cunts and fuck creditkarma for recommending them. I did it through cashapp again and lo and behold it's all free and good to go just like all the past times I've used them. they can have my data, at least they're providing a useful and ACTUALLY free service. the nerve of these fucking kikes.

Yea this shit is annoying. I have kind of settled in paying H&R Block the damn $60 to do it because they save all my prior years on there and shit and it’s easier to pay than get pissed off trying a new software.

They used to have this thing for disabled users where you could literally just phone it in, took a few minutes because the government, most likely, already has all the information.

I think they killed that though, because fuck people with disabilities and all power to vendors selling that tax software shit.

I could do it for free on H&R because my shit has been simple, but the $60 includes some identity monitor thing and audit protection plus being able to import prior year’s info for me and my wife. At some point the convenience is worth $30 per person per year, just like cordless tools and not wasting time unrolling hundreds of feet of cord to drive a few screws.

I stopped bothering to "balance my checkbook" when I stopped using one over 10 years ago. I just turned on notification on my accounts to send me an email when anything over a very small amount is taken out, or anything is deposited. I used quicken for a while, but it was a hassle. I always messed up and the bank was always right.

I don’t think so, there was actually some federal bullshit where H&R and Quicken were fighting the gov’t because the gov’t said you need to allow people to e-file simple returns for free. So the existing companies try to upsell you on shit along the way. If you’re working a normal 1040 job and rent and shit, you can easily go through H&R Block for free. And then rhe $60 unlocks a handful of tools for more complicated returns. Like I said, I pay the $60 so they stop trying to upsell me, and that covers filing with my wife and deductions and credits from mortgage shit and school payments plus some sort of defense if I get audited, and they save all the prior years stuff so it’s easy to import that when needed.

Also the past couple years filing jointly with the direct deposit return, I have had my return pending in my checking account within a week. I think this year I filed on a Sunday and it was pending in my bank acct by Thursday, although it took a couple more days to totally clear. And if you’re strapped for cash, H&R will loan you the return right away for another like $50.

Get your bank statements in electronic format. Like all banks offer a csv file. Just use excel to sort your bank account for what you need.
