Peak slavjank, I'm willing to be the building got 2 extra floors added and nobody thought how the fuck they'd make stairs.
My aunt lived in a building that also had floors added AND AN ELEVATOR THAT ONLY WENT TO FLOORS 1, 3 AND 5. Why is that? Well, the people on floors 2 and 4 didn't want to chip in and they just said "okay fuck you, no elevator for your floors" if I remember correctly. It's been like that for probably 15 years now.

Our local hospital is somewhat like that. First it's shaped like a 3-point star and every place inside looks just like the other so you very quickly lose any sense of direction. Second, all the staircases technically go to every floor, but then there's a surgery block, a children's department with its separate entrance, and things like that so in the end like a third of all floor exits are randomly blocked, turning the place into a literal maze. Elevators do go to every floor, but their shaft walls are ridiculously thick for some reason, like a whole meter or so, and form essentially a narrow tunnel you have to push your way through past the people leaving it (often having trouble walking or just in not any kind of a hurry) to get to the doors before they close and it fucks off somewhere else.

The water likely wouldn't get warm enough to melt the rubber gaskets

The water absorbs all the energy from the burners so the steel would only get as warm as the water. Given that getting the water to boiling would blow the connections apart (vapor pressure), this set up could legitimately just have the pex hoses suspended over the burners without issue. It's the fact the lines are sitting on the burners (uneven heat transfer where it contacts the grills), not the flame, that makes them need the steel lines in the first place.

The grill contact heat spots' energy is quickly dissipated into the water, just not quite fast enough for the flex lines to sit there

I never heard of such a famous tank either.

It's not exclusive to Hungary though, all the American homes used to have high toilet tanks like that too. But I guess they must've fell out of style in like the 1950s, you only really see them in really old homes, so long as they didn't renovate the house with god awful tasteless modern styling, and I'm not even talking about the toilets anymore.

This is the modern crap I'm talking about, I'll never understand it. Everything is either black, white, or grey, and the furniture itself looks cheap and tacky.

To me, it's quite obvious that companies are perpetuating this bullshit styling so that they can produce the most cheap minimalist type of bullshit possible. I don't understand how anyone can look at this for more than 5 minutes, let alone live in a house that looks this boring and soulless. Seriously, who genuinely likes this stuff?

I really do wonder if I'm going insane though, some of the things I thought about were just absolutely horrendous. I kept having to reevaluate my sanity, but time and time again I keep coming to the conclusion that I am indeed sane.

I want to hurt people... hurt them very badly, but there's no one to hurt. I don't want to hurt innocent people, I'm not a monster and the idea of hurting people who don't deserve it makes me feel terrible. Thank god I at least know the difference between right and wrong. But I want to give bad people what they deserve, and I mean truly evil people. But I can't hurt them either cause I doubt I would be able to get away with it. I don't even think I'm physically capable of it, but I'm certainly mentally capable, and that concerns me...

Have you ever read the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis? I'm sure you've seen or at least heard of the movie that's based off of it, but the book makes the movie look like a freaking children's story. I haven't actually read it, but from what I've heard, the book is seriously fucked up. It has scenes of rape, torture, mutilation, cannibalism, and necrophilia. The author eventually confessed that he was writing about himself, about his rage, and I can't help but feel that I'm going through something similar to him. I imagine he was fed up with society, he wanted to hurt people, but there was nobody to hurt, and it only made him more wrathful. He was sane enough to not do it, nor actually want to do it, so he wrote about it instead. The character in the book Patrick Bateman, even showed regret for his horrible actions, which is how I believe Ellis would've felt if he had acted upon his rage. And I believe the author took a shot at himself at the end, when Bateman confesses and his lawyer doesn't even believe him because the Bateman he knows is too cowardly to commit such acts.

I don't think me and Ellis are all that different. If Ellis is sane, than maybe I am too. But still...

Probably stems from something like anxiety, which given enough time just makes you angry and start formulating weird arse solutions in your own imagination. But I'm not a psychologist, just a regular visitor to one for various over-anxiety PTSD things which I sort of collected over long enough time in the military. I don't get to the point of anger about some things when the anxiety kicks in something fierce and have found it does need a purposeful, pleasant or useful distraction to actively counter it just as a way of dealing with it, while my long suffering psych finds an actual treatment.
Killing or hurting people isn't an answer though. Take it from someone that killed and hurt a lot of people in that it just makes you feel guilty until it doesn't so have a bit of time to seek some counselling and maybe they can sort out a better solution because talking to people on the internet isn't one either

I think it's a cope due to how much soul you lose making a house airtight in terms of insulation, keeping bugs out, etc. It's a complete removal from nature and the comfort (and discomfort) that comes with it. Whether or not it's true, that image gives me the sense that nothing unwanted (pests, heat, cold) can get into the house. I think people nowadays prefer comfort over aesthetics and will start to find that lack of aesthetics comforting from association.

i have read American Psycho.
if you are genuinly concerned about your mental state, i suggest seeking professional help. i would say a psychiatrist over a psychologist, i think they are educated differently and psychiatrists are better set to deal with issues, but i have no experience personal with either.
a friend of mine has had a great experience with the one she sees.
always remember that there is no way to kill enough of the people to make any meaningful difference in the world, let alone enough of the right people.
i get where you are coming from, the world is a fucked up and crazy place, i've got no truck with it. i've mostly isolated myself, i don't have many friends and generally very little contact with other people outside of the ones i have contact with on jobs. since i quit drinking i stopped associating with the people i used to hang out with due to the fact that we don't have anything else in common so there is no point. they were only friends because i went out of my way to keep contact and maintain associations. none of them bother getting in touch unless they have work that needs done or they want me to go do shit i don't give a fuck about. auto racing is dull as fuck.

I'm not really sure what to say, I've had my issues and disdainment for the disingenuineness and superficiality of modern society, and I believe Ellis was going through something similar when he was writing American Psycho. There's a theme of having to conform to a certain image in society, versus being your true self. Society may not have ever been perfect, but it seems like it somehow manages to get worse in many aspects as time goes on. To put it simply, my main issue with it is people getting "used and abused", or "exploited" might be a better term, and them just accepting it and not doing anything about it. If they just accept it, it'll only keep getting worse. And that's why it feels so fake, disingenuous and superficial to me.

Some of the things I've thought about were seriously horrible, enough to make some people cry probably. I kinda wish it would make me cry just so I can get some more self reassurance that I haven't gone insane, but well, it doesn't. I'm talking about things like murder, mutilation, dismemberment, and cannibalism. Terribly brutal things, this is the first time I've ever told anyone about this. This obviously isn't something you can just tell people without shocking them and changing their entire opinion of you. What's worse is I actually kinda like thinking about it. I don't see a reason to stop, but that doesn't mean I'm actually going to do it. I don't know if this is me wanting to "take revenge on society" by doing obscene things or what, but it would make sense if that's why. I haven't had thoughts of doing any of this to innocent people, nor have I ever thought of enacting such things on random passerby. I will not harm someone who doesn't deserve it. I usually imagine it on bad people, people who would truly deserve the wrath of a deranged psychotic man. But I haven't imagined it on real people I've had to deal with in life so far. I know better than to do it though.

(2/2)

Sometimes I imagine things like someone trying to rob me, and then me taking "self defense" way too far. A lot of the kinds of people who do stuff like this don't even deserve to live, cause they'll only end up hurting more and more people. I believe in second chances, but some people just never change unfortunately.

But since I started thinking of things like this, I realized that it may not be as uncommon as I thought before. I realized a lot of people out there seem to have such tendencies. They may not act them out because they know better, but they still might do things like play games in evil ways or watch horrific content, like r/watchpeopledie or whatever it was. I never understood how people could watch that, I never enjoyed it cause it was mostly people's lives getting cut short by unfortunate accidents. I don't like to see that, but I've known people who would find such content hilarious apparently. I mean, why else would they be laughing? I don't even think I would enjoy it if I watched it now. And I also realized that sometimes when people "joke around" about messed up things, that they may actually find some enjoyment in thinking about it. I knew this before, but didn't think that it may actually be more commonplace than I realized before.

It may apparently be relativity normal for some people to think about things like this, but it still doesn't prevent me from feeling like I'm losing my mind. The fact that I went from not really thinking about stuff like this and even being off-put by it, to actually finding enjoyment in it is just very concerning to me. It gives me a whole self evaluation crisis. I've usually been regarded as a very nice and likable person by people who know me, and I do regard myself as a nice person too. But for someone like that to be thinking of stuff like this, something doesn't line up. It makes me wonder what kind of person I really am.

Now for the more individualized responses.

I don't even know if I would be very proud of killing other people, even if they did deserve it. Still doesn't stop me from finding some sort of satisfaction in imagining it though. I feel like a very messed up person, I... I don't know what to think. I don't want to talk about these kinds of things to counselors, but I believe talking to people on the internet can indeed help. It's easier to say things when you don't know each other. It may not be the best solution for everyone, but I feel that I'm reasonable enough to recognize bad advice if someone gives it. That may not mean much to you since we all know people's definitions of such things can vary, but I feel like I can find a solution to come to peace with all this. Talking about it, finding advice, and seeing other perspectives on it can help.

I was curious though, what country's military did you serve in?

I honestly would prefer not to see a psychiatrist over a psychologist, I don't really like the idea of getting prescribed medicines for everything, especially mind altering ones. I understand if medicine is the only option, but if I believe there's another solution I would prefer that. Medicines aren't really good for people's health long term.

I wanted to say more about the second half of your post, but I'm having trouble finding words I want to say.

I know killing people usually won't make a difference in the world, but at that point it would at least do something for me. It's not worth the risk though, especially if I find out I ended up killing someone who didn't really deserve it, I would be absolutely devastated. I would feel so terrible...

I'm not very willing to seek out professionals, but I don't think things would get out of hand. But you talking to me right now is indeed helping me in some way. Medication is probably not required in my opinion, more a case of finding the problem, addressing it and then implementing ways to deal with it in some positive and structured way because it is bothering you and ultimately killing someone will be prison time. Prison is very bad and then some as there's basically no solutions or answers there, just incarceration and even more traumatic experiences which given in most countries will be left untreated as well.

I refinished all three floors.
>10ft tall double doors, exterior, and off the hall into the parlor
>Massive mahogany molding on windows and doors, window sills were 5/4"
>Animal stalls in the dirt floor basement
>Slate mansard roof
>Large curved wall with curved stair case going to the second floor. Curved wall had a niche in it for a statue
>All lathe and horsehair plaster
>Giant marble fireplace

New builds are notoriously step-skipping cost-saving shit heaps.
The framing is always solid as fuck.
The finish work, both in skilled labor and materials used is almost universally absolute shit.
I can and have done all manner of repairs and upgrades on these sorts of houses, so it is doable. But you have to either have the disposable income to dump into it, on top of your absurd mortgage. Or have the tools and know how to do it yourself.

Went to heavy industrial then commercial and came back to residential but new construction. Sad part is drywall, trim, and paint are always what a buyer bitches about yet most production builders don't put the extra money into them. At least I can honestly say our concrete and frame work is above board. Drives me nuts though with trim and drywall especially since I used to run an in house drywall sub for the one commercial company I worked for where everything was level 5 finishes, and I was raised trained as a trim/finish carpenter and cabinet maker. Been scolded by upper management before for added costs on homes due to not accepting what they consider "passable" for some of the trim and cabinet work I see on the regular. Pains my soul I have to look at certain things and just turn a blind eye and accept it. Especially considering the artisans I grew up working with on those historic properties.

I miss the 20th century bro. And wish I could have spent more time with those old timers. I knew many of them when I was a kid and just didn't get it at the time. All those oldtimey builds are fucking time capsule treasures. And over the years doing some demo/tear downs has pained my soul, despite discovering how they did it in the process of taking it apart.
Actual mitre boxes, all hand nailed. Some of those old build-in shelving/cabinetry/pantry type stuff just simply wouldn't happen now. (((Cost prohibitive))). I've even wondered on the materials we use now. All poplar and pine moldings. All 3/4 or less. Some oak and maple sometimes. But as you are pulling old builds apart, you can't help but notice how tight the grains were. I get the whole old growth, mini ice age etc. But the pine they sell now, FUCKING MASSIVE grains, makes the wood softer, more susceptible to warping etc. And everyone is rushing. Time time time. No one gives a fuck anymore.
I've walked onto so many jobsite where they did nothing but brag about how fast they did things, the end product be fucked. Time is $$$ GO GO GO!!!!
Actual craftsmanship is very frequently absent.
Some of the best carpenters I've ever met, were oddly enough, the quirky artist types. Not the math and business types.

Even the some of the cheap garbage back in the 70s or 80s at least looked good. It's like in the mid to late 2000s they just decided to abandon all color. A lot of the "modern" style furniture looks like it came straight out of the 1960s, which is completely fine, I like 60 furniture, except it wouldn't be a problem if they just didn't take the damn color out of everything. >15yrs in construction here.
>New builds are notoriously step-skipping cost-saving shit heaps.

That has nothinh to do with modern architecture as opposed to any other style and lots of traditional style new construction and tract housing is slapped together crap.
In lots of cases the traditional look builds are even shittier because the people who are attracted to that stuff just are about that superficial look that in many cases allows slapdash underpinnings to be covered over.
Some of the shittiest tract houses ever built are fake Tudors, saltboxes where they dont belong, those "Swiss Miss" abominations all over SoCal with a fucking wishing well in the yard but barely any foundation, and on and on.
One reason modern architecture isn't more popular is that there's less chance to fudge stuff and slap some trim on it, or texture poorly fabricated walls, etc. It takes more time and effort as a result, and lots of run of the mill building trade types who just want to make money fast hate that. That's also why slapped together ones look particularly bad.

Part of the problem is that construction is largely a solved problem. We know how to build everything as quickly, cost effective and efficiently as possible. There are no new difficulties to surmount that require creative thinking or specialized craftmanship.

You also make the good point that the past seems better because only the best shit survived. Never mind the billions of fascinating shit boxes and awful trends lost to the ages. I don't even know what's going on, but I'm wondering if I'm starting to get arthritis. Also, I wonder if I may have some kind of Mild Cognitive Impairment. I was never the sharpest person to begin with, but I can't help but wonder if it's getting worse. The only problem is I can't remember it enough to adequately judge how I was like several years ago. I remember how I thought I felt, and that I thought something was amiss, but I don't remember how I actually felt anymore. And the people around me are oblivious idiots who never noticed anything at all. I don't know if I'm the same as I always was and if I only became more aware of it at some point, or if something is truly different.

I don't know what could be causing all this, or if it's one thing or multiple things causing it. I don't know if I'm malnourished or what. My diet isn't very good but maybe I need more tests. But I can never remember to schedule a doctor's appointment. Everything is always curtailed by forgetfulness and a lack of motivation, or putting stuff off and forgetting to do it later. My diet isn't very good, and I can't figure out how to fix it, or if that's even what needs fixing. I can't figure any of it out, it's too hard. I feel like a very confused person in life, I even have problems with language, like choosing the words I want to use or speaking. I always hear myself screwing up as I'm talking, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

You know what the worst part of all this is?... I'm only 21 years old, all this is happening right as I'm becoming an adult and finally unburdened by childhood. And with the way society is, at this point it's no surprise why I want to murder the people responsible for making it so bad. I want to overcome my health issues, I just need to find a way.

Kind of? The internet has made acquired knowledge seem almost obsolete. You can look up almost anything. Builder calculators are also nice. But you can run into some seriously complex angle finding problems that would blow your fucking mind, if you were physically tasked to build something on site. I'm the Boston fella. I talked and worked with the GC that did Tom Brady's place. There was a vaulted ceiling in that place that fucked him up for a solid week. He did layouts on the floor and all this. So don't underestimate some of these dudes out here still doing it.
If you guys want have your balls tingle, look up some of the old mining arch structure builds. Some of it is ABSOLUTE ART, with math. Fucking insane.

One thing to look at when you see a doctor is blood sugar levels, if they go too high or low, then it does tend to affect your thought processes, make things seem foggy or slow.
Have a talk to a GP at least to see if they can suggest some mental health plans, go get some blood tests and see if there's a physical reason at the root of it. It may even be something to do with diet if your intake of cabs and sugars is too high and you might need to switch over to a higher protein-fibre diet or something.

Your mileage may vary on doctors, if one doesn't seem very good or doesn't seem to address things, find another for another opinion and diagnosis

The claim was made that modern architecture is "soulless" as if that's some inherent condition that is unique to modern architecture.

When that was challenged you acted as if new construction was the culprit when in the cases where it might result in shitty construction its not unique to modern architecture hitecture, which is usually executed with care be ause that's part of the aesthetic and appeal.

Regardless, that's just lazy construction practices and ascribing it to some vaguely spiritual deficit is just talking out your ass because nobody is supposed to ever ask wtf it means and just nod knowingly at your deep wisdom instead.
Half the people who blather about "soul" don't even believe in souls, they just think it makes them sound hip and discerning and above it all.

i wish i knew what to tell you, anon, i wish i knew how to help beyond suggesting a pro.
i mostly pass time and wait to die, i find things to do that fill my time in ways i enjoy. i like wood work, reading, i just put a new top on the deck where i live, long walks used to help when i got down, now they are mostly high stakes games of chicken on winding, highish speed roads. i've had so many near misses it doesn't even get my heart rate up anymore.
i am an organ donor, so when someone eventually hits me if there is anything worth salvaging whoever can use it is welcome to it.
since i quit drinking, i cut ties with the people i used to hang out with since that was the only thing i had in common with them. i miss getting black out drunk several nights a week, but don't want to live that way anymore.
i would like to live long enough to see the collapse of society, but i don't care to live through it, life is more work than it's worth most days as it is.

That's why I'm not so willing to just give up completely. I know I've been talking about all kinds of doom and gloom, and murderous cannibalism, but pessimistic stuff isn't on my mind 24/7 thankfully.

Like I mentioned before I mostly just do my own thing, whatever I enjoy, but I'm not in good health. It can make it harder to just do what I want. I can't do too much physical activity, I'm worried about screwing up my joints. They already feel damaged in some way, and I don't want to completely break them. And I fatigue easily too, it's not as bad as it was at one point (where I was perpetually fatigued for no reason), but I'm worried about having a heart attack. Sometimes my heart just feels odd, and I've also had random minor chest pains a couple times. I don't want to over exert myself and die, I'm not in very good shape.

I don't know what's going on, this doesn't make any sense, especially for someone my age. I'm only 21 but I feel like I'm 60. I need to go see the doctor more, whatever is going on with me can't be normal. The only problem is I can never remember to schedule an appointment. I finally got one scheduled though, only problem is it's like 2 months away. Apparently that's the closest opening they had.

I'm gonna try to remember to start going to the doctor more frequently. If I can at least overcome whatever this mental affliction making me feel so slow and confused is, then I will already be much better off to be able to figure out the rest hopefully. I want to find a way to heal myself physically too. I know I'll find a way to heal myself in some way. I got a lot of years ahead of me and I'm not just gonna let it go to waste. I've got things I've been wanting to do.

>> No.2448669

>>2448472
I've had several blood tests before, but I should get more for other things, since the ones I got so far were all pretty much normal. I have a good doctor, I just don't see him often.

Based on what they tested for, I'm not malnourished, which is only more complicating for trying to figure this thing out. I'm not even overweight, I'm actually underweight. I gotta fix my diet regardless, I don't know how though. I really need to seek help from other people, I can barely even take care of myself. I don't know how I used to do it before. When people try suggesting healthier things to eat, I usually end up saying "I don't feel like having that", or "I don't feel like making that." I don't really have a motivation to do very much in general anyway. If I can at least get rid of this mental fog, then I believe I will be much better off to find and implement solutions into my life.

I really wish I could offer you advice now, but my mind fails to come up with anything and I'm sorry for that. I'm not sure what to say, maybe try some new hobbies? To be honest, delving into the /x/ tier rabbithole of occult things and magic has really interested me, and I think I found something new to pursue. Maybe you might be interested in such things too. I like to learn, but I feel like I'm finally starting to learn real information about how things work. I feel bad for you, I don't want you to die.

I'm only 21 years old. I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to do in life either. I have some goals, but I just don't really have a plan for it. I suppose I'll just try to figure it out as I go along, and take things one step at a time, and chase my own passions instead of someone else's.

I suppose try doing something to change things up a little. Try acting on impulses (as long as they aren't dangerous and gonna get you killed). Plan a long vacation. Maybe even move houses. I've been wanting to try and move, I don't know to where yet, just not in Illinois where I already am. This time in my life isn't a very good one as I've explained earlier, but I can guarantee that at the same time I'm making memories that I'll cherish in the future. Mostly related to occult stuff. I'm not sure how much you believe in any of that, but it's been genuinely fascinating for me to study and learn about, and to discuss and meet other people as a result of this pursuit. Try to find some kind of pursuit like that that you're interested in, something with a community where you can talk to people. I was already falling into a rut, and this pursuit has been pulling me out of it. I was seriously bored and didn't know what to do at all, and then this came along and it's certainly been helping me. And I've pretty much been doing it all sitting behind a computer reading up on things and chatting with people about it.

I'm just not sure if how the Garage 54 people were doing it is the best way, or the actual way. I feel like the wood itself being on fire is taking away gases that could be used for the engine. But oddly enough, it did still kinda work.

I feel like it would've been better if the wood itself wasn't on fire, and instead was in a separate receptacle for it to just be super heated instead, so the gases can seep out and not be burnt before it gets to the engine. Like making charcoal.

You gotta *make* the time to interact with people.

I honestly don't see my friends very often cause I'm busy with other things and I feel like I just need time to relax, but you gotta force yourself to reach out to these people. I find that if I'm hanging out with them, I genuinely enjoy it, even if I would've rather had a lazy day previously. You gotta find ways to have fun man, it can be hard for me to figure out things to do to entertain myself too, but you gotta figure something out. Hanging out with friends is a great way, it really makes things feel better if you got good friends.

We never really have a plan for what we do, we kinda make it up as we go along, but even just seeing each other and talking is enough to make my day better. They never really call me, I've really been the only one organizing get-togethers. We genuinely enjoy each other's company, but I can tell they're going through the exact same thing that I am, we all feel too overburdened and just feel that we need time to relax. But we gotta maintain these relationships or else we all drift apart. Try to talk to your friends more, I know I need to. You still have some real friends that you genuinely enjoy spending time with, right?

Oh, I was under the impression you did still have at least a few friends you actually like.

But like I mentioned before, try to find a pursuit that you enjoy, one that has a community. I mean, they all have communities, but actually interacting with others in such communities is a great way to meet new friends. I don't really know how to go through life. I don't know if that's just whatever mental affliction is ailing me or if this is how everyone feels, but I suppose this is how people go through life; Finding friends that they actually have things in common with. I mentioned earlier my pursuits and how I've met some new friends, friends that I actually have a lot in common with. You have interests, I encourage you to start involving yourself in some sort of community oriented around them. It sounds like this is what you need. Just try and find something fulfilling to do.

I hope I'm not bothering you too much with trying to get you to socialize more, but I really don't want you to live a depressing life. I don't really know what the future has in store for me, but I'm in a rut too. I'm not really in a position to do much of anything, all I'm doing is just waiting and doing the daily grind while I'm trying to figure my life out. I can't even really do any of my hobbies cause I don't have the space for them, I probably do in some capacity but I don't know how I used to do it all before. I don't know what's wrong with me. We gotta find something fulfilling to do, for our own sakes.

If you're not back by the time the thread gets pruned, I hope we cross paths again someday. In a good way, of course.

But don't take too long to try my advice, or else more and more time will keep going by the longer you put it off.

It's been over a month since I last talked one of my best friends, I think I'll go see him again soon.

You're welcome. :)

If you're ever feeling bored, remember me and everything I said. I really hope it'll get you into a better place in life. If you want, you can even right click and save the webpage after it's archived so you can revisit it and remember it better for later. I don't seem to have a very good memory, and things like that help to remind me of the specifics of something better. I want you to remember what I said, so that it can come to mind again when you may need it most in life.
