This guy is putting himself at incredible risk. There are probably so many CEOs and sales managers that want him dead right now

Does anyone know if any of these blue collar companies have hinted at trying to threaten him yet?

Todd compares tools and electronics from various companies using elaborate expensive tests. He's shown people that more expensive items are not always the best and that sometimes companies will sell you shit that does not even work. Many a contractor watches his channel. He refuses all sponsorship so the companies he mentions have no choice but to mald in silence

Ah yes, all those five vowel Amazon "brands" he tests out like xinyijiayi and areclern, or even qiguch66 are real mad that he just breaks a bunch of tools on camera using tests that dont reflect any real world usage!

I knew a guy that made similar videos like this (he was popular in my local community) and caused all toolheads in the area to save thousands of dollars by not using the shitty tools.

it was all well and good until he stopped posting videos and also didn't show up to the local tool fair where he'd usually do a live show of his top tools (it was pretty cool getting to see him do his vids in person)

we didnt know what happened until police found his severed head nailed to a tree using the hammer from his last video review, which didnt get a good ToolTest rating. other body parts were eventually found mailed to the top viewers of his channel as a warning from Big Tool, and everyone got the message quite clearly.

continue watching if you dont believe me, but dont be shocked when this dude's hand is found on your doorstep holding some piece of shit stud remover. you don't mess with Big Tool and get away with it.

there is obviously no proof because if there were it would defeat the entire purpose. but his entire spiel basically boils down to 'i dont care what brand of tool you buy as long as you buy something'. everything he reviews is something amazon sells and he includes amazon links to everything in his video descriptions. lately half the stuff he tests is amazon exclusive chinese alibaba crap.

but if you think about it in a larger context, companies spend ungodly amounts of money on marketing and advertising, and it's no secret that people are almost impervious to online advertisements. so you get the introduction of things like 'sponsored content' and social media 'influencers' which is really just a hip new spin on the old infomercial concept that used to include people like billy mays and that shamwow guy. the more natural you can make these people seem, the more effective they are, since the moment most people become aware that they're viewing an ad they completely lose interest.

so knowing this, you have literally the biggest online commerce company in the western world, how do you think they're going to approach marketing? if they're not doing things like this they're retarded. ask yourself, how much money have you spent on amazon solely because of his videos? and i guarantee you there is an equivalent 'project farm' for every one of amazon's market segments.

What is wrong with the videos if they are ads? They would be an example of the greatest form of marketing in the digital age. More likely is that his channel rakes in money from the affiliate links. It used to be after clicking on a link any purchases made within the next several hours would be credited to the affiliate, probably not like that anymore. Amazon can certainly incentivize content creators.

Those V sharpeners work a couple of times, but with use the performance will drop significant as the primary bevel grows shorter and the cutting edge becomes thicker.
As they are really aggressive, you will see this before the first dozen uses on a single knife.
With a stone or guided system you can thin the knife, but the V sharpener only hits the secondary bevel. So you are stuck with buying another sharpening tool or tossing the now fucked knife

Oh, they've tried, but Todd is ex-military, a legit operator, and his compound is among the most secure homesteads in America. Back in his service days, ISIS released dozens of propaganda videos claiming that they were going to kill Terrible Todd--but one by one, their top lieutenants died hearing "We're going to test that" whispered in their ears as their throats were slowly slit with a rusty lawnmower blade, Todd's weapon of choice for settling personal debts.

Todd the Terror is officially retired now, but he can still shoot the wings off a fly, and "The Farm" is protected by his hand-picked regiment of OMAHA WOLVES from various three-letter agencies and disavowed task forces. He may look unassuming, but Todd is basically the 2022 equivalent of pic related. Fuck around and find out, Bosch.

I find that his tests are poorly performed, dont represent real world scenarios, or he introduces multiple variables. Take his recent hose clamp video, he never measured the teeth skipping point of each clamp when being tightened. He says he tightened it to a certain torque but each clamp might be able to handle an extra 1/4 turn. And I have no idea why he added a spring clamp, they have a whole different purpose and don't function like a worm screw clamp for a reason. How much does each clamp hold up at coolant temp? How about near a turbo? Or maybe a silicone hose holding two pipes together and seeing how well it grips. I could nitpick most of his videos. I like his lawnmower engine destruction videos because they are fun. But his tests aren't really real world like he claims.

His tests are iffy too. Watched the knife sharpening video recently and the way he tests the knives is inconsistent, as well as the actual finishes on the knives. The tools themselves obviously just hold the knife in place so it can be worked on in very limited angles, but there is still a degree of technique involved that I don't trust him to have. An actual professional knife sharpener using each tool to the best of their ability as well as controlled, consistent testing would be far better.

Ive been following it closer than I should be.
Its fully finalized and they are manufacturing and shipping the final tools now. They already have a few shipments already, and are getting ready to have a pop up shop at their office, selling ~2500 of them relatively soon.

Off the top of my head
>early on said it was going to be made in canada, name dropped Megapro (which that channellock is obviously ODM megapro)
>people started to say "its just a megapro with their name on it"
>came out and said the handle is their own design not megapro, and they only "licensed" something from megapro
>ratchet mechanism was originally going to be made in taiwan, they moved it to a chinese factory
>no black shafts, only chrome silver shafts now

So what exactly is made in canada, who knows. The plastic handles maybe?
Will it just be assembled in canada?
Did they just license the stupid bit holder handle?
The half sized bits are made in china.

I own a Snap On ratcheting screwdriver and would never buy one, im just sitting back and enjoying watching it unfold. Some youtuber making his own screwdriver with Chinese parts without a warranty for the same price as a Snap On.

You might as well be buying blindly with how shockingly bad some of his testing is.

His diagonal cutter video is a prime example of how he doesnt understand the underlying principles of the tool, and if you take the results at face value without prior knowledge you get the wrong conclusions.

Believe it or not, having very hard brittle cutting edges which chop hardened steel with marginally less force does not mean that they are better diagonal cutters.

There is a reason all the more expensive brands were tempered softer and took more pressure to chop thick nails.
Because believe it or not, when you use a dyke within its rated capacity with the materials it was made to cut, being tempered for toughness as opposed to hardness will result in FAR longer lasting tools.

But you would never know that because from test 1 he was chopping shit that was already outside of the tools rated capacity.

That SnapOn jack was clearly labeled made in china, and never pretended it wasnt. Pic related.
SnapOn also sells rebadged Hein-Warner made jacks, which are 100% made in the USA. They just cost more because HW jacks are the best in the business and arent cheap.

SnapOn only manufacturers bread and butter hand tools and toolboxes in their USA factories (out of usa sourced materials.)
This is what everyone is talking about when they talk SnapOn
Nobody is talking about that flashlight or cheap pocket knife with a snap on logo.
Everyone knows everything outside of handtools and toolboxes are subject to being rebadged.
Everyone knows their drill bits are Triumph Thunderbits and their Taps are Irwin Industrial. Their vise grips were GripOn and now are Malco.

Well everyone but you I guess.

You do also realize that the FTC is extremely strict about "made in the USA" claims right?
Obama actually strengthened the FTC labelling laws in 08, which is exactly why you had a bunch of brands like Dewalt scrambling to say they are "assembled" in the USA with global components as opposed to "made" in the USA.

This is exactly why Harbor Freight took up this sort of aggressive counterfeit/copycat marketing gimmick. Because of people like you who are unironically just dimwitted and dumb people who fall for it.

If it looks the same, it has to be the same. They told me the jacks were the same, so everything else must also be the same.
Icon steals SnapOns wrench shape and font, must be the same.
Doyle steals Macs font and color, must be the same.
Hercules steals makitas colors, must be the same.
Because dewalt assembles their tools of global materials, SnapOn has to too despite their labeling saying otherwise.
SnapOn is violating strict FTC labeling laws because, well because harbor freight coaxed me into believing it with their marketing team!

I didnt actually think there were retards dumb enough to fall for this nigerian prince tier marketing gimmick on this board.

Watch the new Autismo PF video… except that news has been going around the internet for some years since the Daytona was released and people have been showing teardowns and comparisons. Snappy outsources shit from other manufacturers for their non-wrench stuff, and Harbor Freight happened to go to the same jack factory as Snap On for their supply. Mechanics that buy SnapOn tools dont use floor jacks like a peasant, just because SnapOn puts their name on a ton of rebadged shit doesnt mean its a hot seller or a good deal.
It does have repair parts available, and it does have a 4 year warranty as opposed to 90 days with Harbor Freight with no repair parts. And that may be valuable to some people. But floor jacks are for weekend warriors not SnapOns core userbase.

Lifts dont even cost that much money nowadays, and half of the weekend warriors have those too.

You can keep trying to harp on non hand tool and non toolbox SnapOn as if its relevant to their core tools.
They arent relevant, never have been, never will be.

They jack design didnt exist 15 years ago when they cracked down on FTC labeling laws, so its not an "anymore" situation with that jack.

All of their actual hand tools and toolboxes are made in their USA factory, and are labelled as Made in the USA. Not a "qualified" USA made claim where it qualifies large parts of the tool being foreign.

Snap On in particular seems to have cut back on the “Assembled in the USA” the past couple years after a lot of bad PR from people paying $$$$ for shit made in China. The jacks and power tools were some of those items. COO would’ve still been China if you could find it, but “Assembled In USA” was always much more prominent on those items. It’s the same thing DeWalt and Craftsman are still doing with their stuff. A big ol’ American flag on the box and even on the tool sometimes that says “Assembled in USA” and you have to do a little digging in the fine print to find the true COO.

They do have some available parts online, but not the shit you would want like seals. That’s $500+ for 2 jacks though, compared to a couple o-rings.

The complete seal and ball bearing kits for that 50 year old jack are like $40-$50 shipped, and the main seal I needed was $15 shipped, and I’ll order the whole seal kit next time something goes on it. That’s a lot less than buying a new Made in Japan jack.

Surprisingly a quick Amazon search for Daytona jack seals gave me fucking nothing, which is why I will likely get an Arcan next time I need to buy a jack. I didn’t even consider it when I paid $67 for my Pitt 3-ton from HF, but it would be gay to buy a $300 Daytona and you can’t find any consumables for it. They have like 4 parts available for it on HF’s website, the front and rear wheels, handle, and the pad IIRC, maybe the bolt that holds the handle in as well.

The worst part is, the whole discussion was to teach mudhut man the FTC labeling laws, and explain how the core snap on tools are straight labeled "made in the USA" and not "qualified" aka "assembled" or "built".
He was making baseless claims that SnapOn was breaking FTC regulations because he has no clue what he is talking about.
