I unscrew the whole bullshit nozzle assembly as the o-rings rotted out in less than a year. I just pour it in like a caveman and spill it all over. We cant have nice things, there was an American company that made gas cans that got sued out of existence because too many people would pour gas on fires and the can would explode. Funnels and any can. The solution to the spout problem is not to use a spout. For outdoor use I welded a 4" scrap pipe ring to a hunk of rebar which I stomp into the ground as a funnel holder and works gloriously well.

I use metal ones exclusively. The plastic ones leak vapors even when cold and make my trunk smell like gas, but I got a 10L metal one + pourer for the trunk and it is perfect - no expansion or crumpling and no leaking of vapors.

G.I. plastic cans are an upgrade but not cheap most times. I also use the water cans (same plastic) for the small cap-mounted spout. It's easy to see why the military switched long ago.

I use these. I have some VP and Summit cans.

I just use whatever cans my job provides and don't bother with the spout, i just pour the gas straight in from the mouth of the container and it fucking spills everywhere

There was a glut of Czech surplus Jerry cans online a while back. It looks like they've gone up in price, when I bought mine they were like $25 now they're $40, even then you just need a spout and a set of new gaskets and you're good to go. After making the switch to metal I'd never go back, I run ethanol free gas in all of my vehicles but the nearest station is 50minutes one way away, so I've got 80 gallons worth of storage available. The main advantage is the real jerry cans have a breather tube that runs from the main opening to the bottom of the tank, with the correct nozzle you can empty a 5 gallon can in under 60 seconds. Plus being metal there's no offgassing, I'd feel very comfortable about having them inside of a vehicle without creating a smell. The only thing they don't do well is dispense small amounts of gas, (think weedwacker sized tank), so I keep a small one gallon tank around for the smaller things.

I was pissed off at the plastic ones I found locally, so I went searching for something better. I just couldn't get the "safety" nozzle to work right without spilling gas.
Then I found this one and it's great. Simple attached funnel, no weird spring-loaded nozzle.

Get the $40 metal cans from harbor freight

Remove the flash arrestor and disassemble the spout. Remove the spring. You get to keep the factory spout, but it stays open without the spring. Works very well. Simply remove the rubber gasket from the inside when pushing down, and the assembly comes apart.

They're great which is why they replaced steel cans which corrode due to moisture. I use those with funnels and have no need or desire for spouts. I also use the water cans but those seep (different lids) slightly. Doesn't matter since mine stay upright secured in my truck bed and the integral small spout in the cap is nice for small engine fillups.

Race fuel jugs, Justrite style cans and (new) real military steel cans are fine too. If want big reserve for storms etc you can and I did buy an 18-wheeler saddle tank (new takeoff from a glider kit and dirt cheap at 150 bucks) which gained stainless plugs and fittings. Next hurricane it goes inna bed of my longbed truck for filling then truck becomes temporary fuel bowser for other vehicles.

The ones with the vapor lock spouts were not for fire safety or because someone poured gas directly on a fire (they don't prevent that), they were mandated as part of the never vending environmentalist agenda against VOCs that have to settle for smaller and smaller sources to go after as huge problems .

Gentlemen, I believe you will really like my method. I use a regular gas can without any safety cuck nozzle bullshit. I add a valve stem with the needle valve removed. I remove or just loosen the cap, and the gas pours out freely and quickly with no gurgling. Picrel is mine.

For reference here in Australia any plastic jerry can will have a flexible spout and a separate air vent you open before emptying the can.

You need a spout that stays closed. Some times this isn't a big deal. If you have a decent sized generator or dirt bike, you just shove it in there hard enough that it activates the spout.

If it's like a lawnmower or weed whacked then you need a special grip to pull the nozzle and a third arm to hold the can and your tool.

The spout also has to capture some of the vapors from the gas tank, so a free flowing vent isn't an option.
