> lose life savings doubling down on tech stock that crashes
> no more downpayment

go ahead laugh it up, I deserve it. my question is, I plan on parking a tow behind camper on parents driveway as my private domicile. I am in Canada and therein lies the challenge...will I freeze in the winter? Are they insulated at all? Can they handle a foot of snow sitting on the roof? Any DIY solutions or should I make peace with my cozy bedroom?

If you're able to run a fat 10-12ga extension cord to the trailer exclusively for a 1500W electric space heater, I bet it would be cold, but not deadly. Might need 2. The difficult part is when people attempt to fuck off with these things off grid. Much, much harder to stay warm without the electric grid.

There's nothing more cucked than home ownership. If you think about it, you're literally paying taxes, a mortgage, and putting sweat equity into it, just so another family can eventually buy it up and enjoy it themselves. You spend 25 years paying off a mortgage, just so that some Chinese millionaires can come in and pay it off in cash, just so they can trash it and then build an apartment duplex on it.

But, in all seriousness, you need to get yourself a wood stove in the trailer.
I'm in Canada too, and you will need to use firewood for heating - you simply won't be able to produce enough electricity to run a heater constantly.

If you're insistent on it, get a trailer used with a propane kitchen and a propane heater, and use propane for all that shit.
The worst part of a trailer isn't staying warm, it's cooling off in the summer.

Decide now if you're going to be solar or generator or wood.
My personal best advice would be solar for electronics with wood for heating and cooking.

But, most conventional trailers will be generator-powered, or propane and solar.
Decide now, because your electronics purchase decisions and your general routine will be based off of that.

Living in a trailer is honestly pretty awesome.
Fuck the globohomo and fuck paying taxes. Fuck paying 1,500,000 for a single-bedroom house with a 50sq ft. backyard.

Correction - I just read you're in your parents backyard.
If they have a big property, then you should absolutely go wood-fired.
Maybe even build your own log cabin, who fucking knows.

Bedrooms are cozy too, but I'd really advise you on getting that trailer.
Plus, if life gets shitty, you can always take it and move it, like a hermit crab.
(1/2)

>> No.2414468

To me, that's the definition of cozy.
You can also decorate it however you want and fuck around with it as your personal tinkering project, because worst comes to worst, a trailer is like 10,000 bucks at most if you buy it used, and throwing away 10,000 bucks is better than fucking up a million dollar home.

Plus, you'll be able to travel around if you take good care of it.
And it makes you more self-sufficient. Also ladies love a trailer.(2/2)

God bless you King, and good luck.
I'd say go for it.

Most aren't insulated. You want a "four season" or "all weather" camper. If it's not, you need to insulate it, by removing the walls and installing insulation, like a house. You also want to look for cold weather windows.
And, even if it's insulated, you need a heater.

>> No.2414512

If it's sold or certified as a camp or house trailer it will be insulated, but very minimally due to the wall thicknesses involved. Best case would be a newer unit wirh EPS foam insulation w/reflective mylar and a fiberglass outer skin, worst case is an older one with glass Batts and an aluminum skin and window frames that act like a giant heat sink.
That same EPS foam can be used to make inserts for windows and overhead hatches and other penetrations to minimize heat loss ...you'll want lots of warm clothing and a good sleeping bag or other thermal blanket setup for sleeping but as long as you have a small heat source you aren't going to die.
The real bane of living and sleeping in a trailer when it's cold is dealing with humidity and condensation from wet clothing you bring in and especially from breathing during sleep...a small fan to keep air moving can help but wiping down interior surfaces will be a daily chore to prevent damage from pooling condensation water.
This can even affect things like clothing stored in ziploc bags, what little air is inside those bags can have enough water in it to condense inside the bag when the air outside it is cooler, like still air inside a closed closet on an outside wall at night.
Go to grab a shirt or some socks in the AM and they can be noticeably damp or even coated in frost inside that sealed bag.

Mate, tell me this.
Why should I own a house?
I will have the worth of a house saved up in gold bullion anyways.
AND if anything ever gets bad, I can take that worth with me - a house is stuck in the ground.

Read below about my experiences with how crises affect home ownership.
The gubbermint can and will just take it.
And I know you will say "but muh guns I'll take on the army", and honestly, it is based to stand your ground, but I'm not getting into a firefight with a globohomo government over a house.
I'll load up the trailer I've owned for 5 years with all of my homesteading equipment, and I will simply drive off North.
If I can't do that, I will abandon my 5,000 dollar trailer, so be it, take my savings in precious metals, and get on the first ship out of my shithole of a country (Canada.)

>>2414623
Based if paid off, good for you anon, unironically, BUT, I will again say this - your wealth is literally tied to the ground on which you live.
I'm not a hippie faggot, and I think that ownership > renting in ALL cases, but it still stands that your worth is always going to be anchored to one place.

It's not good to keep all of your eggs in one basket, friend.
I come from a country where the government just confiscated houses when it felt like it under the guise of "equality" and "muh working class" - people who spent their lives saving for a house had their net worth obliterated, and those that saved fiat got it cancelled, frozen in bank accounts, or hyperinflated away.

It still stands that the best investments you can make are:
>yourself + skills
>tools of your trade that you can take with you
>precious metals
>contacts
>valuable business manufacturing products that requires personal oversight from YOU, i.e. making yourself irreplaceable

>> No.2414633

>>2414632
Cont, this is to both of you anons:
Maybe it's cowardly, but I've always lived according to my principles, and worrying about loyalties to a globohomo government is last on my list of priorities for life.
I try to be honorable in all other aspects of my life, and so, have no quarrels abandoning a burning nation that has only ever told me that I'm "privileged" and a shitlord for wanting to live a traditional life with my family, and to expect decent and moral behavior from those around me.

Clearly, it was too much to ask, so while liberal Canada burns, I will happily fuckoff innawoods or defect to China, they may be globohomo, but at least they won't harass me for being straight.

>> No.2414654

>>2414632
>Mate, tell me this.
>Why should I own a house?

I never said that you should, or that anyone "should".
I'm not the one trying to shame and mock people into agreeing with some narrow minded notions regarding home ownership like
>There's nothing more cucked than home ownership.
and the idea that seeing a positive side to it is an attempt to
> cope with the fact that you won't actually own "your" house for another 20 years.
If your thought process is that rudimentary and illogical then clearly its not for you.
Your wall of text rant and attempt to come off as reasonable now just proves that your are all blather and cope that pretends to know what people will say so you can argue against strawman
>And I know you will say "but muh guns I'll take on the army"...

Again, not a mindset conducive to adult life and activities that involve rational thinking, so a transient lifestyle as a paranoid miser on the run is probably your best bet.
Good luck.

>> No.2414766

>>2414654
>adult life and activities
Like paying one's 401K while it hyperinflates, anon?

Because, of course, being reasonable is totally not what brought us to this point?
I also didn't "mock" homeowners any more than any joke "mocks" a group of people - I explicitly said that I was joking - "in all seriousness."

I know there are virtues to owning a house, I've never denied it.
I just think that people painting home ownership as the panacea mecca of modern living are a little bit copey with themselves.
And we both know that living in a trailer is shit upon MUCH more than living in a house, even though both have roughly equal pros / cons.

>the concept that debt slavery for 20 years sucking being rudimentary is a bad thing
Much superior to perform mental gymnastics to legitimize the fact that one will NEVER truly own their home, and even when they do, if they fail for a month to pay their taxes, they will be completely fucked.
Have you ever heard of Occam's Razor, anon?

We also both know that mortgage cuckery and rentoidery are encouraged heavily by the government, the banks, and normies.
So, surely it isn't too much of a revolutionary act that someone in a niche thread on a niche board on an already niche site joked about house ownership being a form of cuckery, given that 99% of the population thinks, again, that it's the best fucking thing in the universe.

Jesus fucking Christ this thread

Op, get a 4 season camper, even a portable ice fishing trailer and you'll be fine. If you shop enough ,you can find a cheap odd looking on that'll work fine.

As long as you didn't sell, you aren't totally retarded.

As long as you keep working and saving, you'll make it back.

Homeownership is amazing and when you have that deed in your hand, you're pretty much set for life
All the retards trying to claim being a leach on the system is good deserve the electric chair. Everyone can contribute. Even the mentally challenged can hold down jobs. One of my first acts as president would be labor camps for all welfare queens with physical activity quotas and food rationing

No most RVs have propane heating. They are insulated but not very well.
Honestly, if you’re going to be staying at your parents you might as well just get cozy with your bedroom.

My mom lived in one for a year and through the winter after her house burned.
The climate is milder in Denmark than in Canada due to the warm gulf stream, but it still regularly goes down to -15 degrees C in the winter months.
she had a gas heater that was built in to the camper and used a small fanned electric space heater in the attachable tent but used it in the caper as well when it was cold. There was a wooden platform in the tent so it was lifted a bit off the ground from rain and mud.
You'll want to connect it directly to electricity and a water supply through a hose or something, so you don't have to either leave the camper or store it in a yucky water tank.
she also had a separate toilet wagon that also had a room where she had an extra fridge because the one in the camper was so small.
you'll want to clear the roof if the snow gets soaked and heavy, but it usually wont take longer than 5 minutes if you have a ladder and a good tool like a long broom or something.
Once you have it all set up you'll probably not want to move it.
If you have a room at your parents where you can live, I would consider it for financial reasons since the camper will depreciate a great deal when it gets used, especially if its a good quality one that's worth living in. Things in a camper break and are hard to repair.

A house owner will always just be more fucked in any scenario you can come up with than a trailer dweller.

But, FYI, I've got a woodgas-powered tractor, so worst comes to worst, I'll literally get on my tractor and drive there on wood.
That's if you neglect the fact that I always have 100 gallons of gasoline stashed just in case, giving me about 2000 miles worth of driving distance.

That other anon is a fuckin dick, but honestly if you're looking to build assets that are inflation-proof, a house is a pretty good pick. They have really strong intrinsic value, and you can save a ton of money by paying off the loan early.
That said, if you have the option to live in a trailer in your parents' driveway, that is an excellent way to save up a TON of money.

>>2415197
My best guess is that it's an advance form of coping with the fact that home ownership is becoming more and more difficult. If you just convince yourself that owning a home is a scam, then it hurts less.
