I have a shower and tub combo and the hot water has stopped flowing to it and I can hear the leak behind the wall where the 3 valves are

The wall behind where the valves and leak is is an exterior wall so I cant cut into it and of course there's no way to access from the side because of studs

The foundation is concrete slab and every video I see of uninstalling these requires access from the bottom to unscrew the drain and the vids have access underneath through the pier and beam foundation instead of the slab like mine

what do?

I called a plumber and he said it'd be a minimum of $2,000 by phone which I can't afford

pic isn't mine, mine has 3 valves

If you cannot access the plumbing from the other side of the wall because it's an exterior wall (which is against building code, by the way. You're not supposed to run water supply lines through an exterior wall) you have no option but to remove the tub/shower surround on that wall so you can access the plumbing. There's really no other option.

I accepted that this morning but can't figure out how to access the bottom to unscrew the drain since it's a concrete slab foundation

I'm kinda thinking about cutting into the shower and wall around the valves. That would ruin the $600+ shower tub stall and look like shit after I repair it though

Im confused as to why you need to access your drain, youll need to just get behind the fixture and start looking for the leak there, if its inaccessible you start taking parts of the interior wall down, basically your only option.

Those kinds of surrounds are typically just glued to the wall. You should be able to remove it without damaging it if you're careful.

As for the tub, once you have the wall open you may be able to access the drain from underneath. Maybe.

>get behind the fixture
exterior wall behind the fixture

>start taking parts of the interior wall down
theres studs on the sides of the fixture enclosing it

the "surround" shower wall is connected to the tub, the entire shower tub combo is one seamless piece

Yes i understand the exterior wall, OP needs to go in through the shower wall

Yes, you have to take off the whole tub/shower insert. Like anon said, those are usually glued on. Good luck.

If that's the case, and it's on a slab floor, the drain may be the type that screws in from the top since that's pretty much the only way it could be isntalled. See if you can rig up something to try and unscrew it, like stick a couple screwdrivers in the drain and twist them with a pry bar.

Take an angle grinder and cut a neat square in the vinyl, remove, cut the chipboard or cement board or whatever, remove, access your water issue

Place back, buy a tube of that fancy epoxy mix shit that hardens in seconds, then glue the cut vinyl back, white epoxy it sealed

Cut a hole more than big enough to work through
Leak is going to be behind the faucet

This is the cheapest option

agreed, this is the cheapest option. I like to imagine how I would fix things if something like this were to happen to me and this is exactly what I would do. It is a shitty plastic shower, literally the cheapest possible option. Maybe one day you can learn how to waterproof, trowel and lay out a tile surround. A patched hole in a shitty plastic shower/tub is no big deal because it was shit to begin with.

t. just finished installing a water softener, wife and i are almost done remodeling our master bath and don't want hard water deposits on our glass door.

OP have you removed the handles and trim rings from the valves? It could be the leak is at the valve body and you may be able to address it without tearing anything out. Could even be you just need a new valve cartridge

>> No.2415363

>>2415332

so the valve thats leaking has some metal blockage sitting over the allen-bolt to release it so I cant even figure out how to get it off

I was not aware of valve cartridges and this valve that is leaking from has been "broken" for years where it can be turned all the way over and over instead of being stopped level to stop the water flow like the other one has a stop

ty for the x-ray vision in your post
>Take an angle grinder
oic you were explaining how his faucet will start leaking, I rescind my earlier statement.

Obviously don't cut deeply my friend and if you see sparks, stop

But that would turn the angle grinder into a de facto wire finder. And I'll be damned if anyone finds out I used a wire finder.
