2401589 No.2401589 [Reply] [Original]

My apartment building refuses to transition their leaf blowers from gas to electric so I’ve started flushing cat litter down the toilet in retaliation. I don’t do this in my personal toilet for obvious reasons so I have to haul cat litter to either the lobby bathroom, the gym bathroom, or the pool bathroom.

Sadly, I don’t think it’s actually doing anything. Sometimes if I use too much litter I will hear the toilet struggling to flush (like a gulp) but otherwise it’s been handling it fine.

Is there anything else I can do?

Ahh yes.. the ole "I will cause damage to someone elses property because they are endangering the environment, and because im special and should not have to hear any noises whatsoever as to not damage my oversensitive hearing because I am an oversensitive all about me asshole" scheme.

you are just another typical asshole who thinks the fucking world revolves around you. if you dont like gas blowers move to california cause they banned small gas engines which will include blowers and trimmers. That way you can feel special along with the rest of the commie bastards that run and inhabit commiefornia.

Yes, stop acting like a little bitch and buy a pair of headphones if it bothers you that much.
Has it ever occurred to you that maybe they can't afford switching to electric? Or that gas ones are simply just better? It probably hasn't, since your first thought was to damage plumbing, because we all know that someone who can't tolerate the noise of a leaf blower will be able to tolerate the noise of an entire building crew tearing walls and putting new pipes in.
Or, if it really bothers you that much and you're so enthusiastic to do something about it, there is nobody stopping you from buying the tools and doing the job yourself (since you have all the money and energy needed to pour lots of cat litter down several toilets).
Imagine having people come and do maintenance for you, and still finding a reason to complain about it.

OP is going to vandalize plumbing to "send a message" about landscaping noise. It's not outside the realm of possibility that he'd carry the bag around with him, if not to his targets then at least to his apartment.

I suppose he could leave the bag in his car and keep filling up a soda cup or a ziplock baggie or something, but it's really not hard to pick up on people doing suspicious things when you look at surveillance footage. And if there are cameras, you can be damned sure they'll check the footage as soon as the plumber reports their toilets fucking up because they're full of concrete.

I had my car totaled by an uninsured driver who was at fault, I had paid extra for uninsured driver protection on my insurance.
They took them to court and sued them, but it doesn’t mean shit if they don’t have money. It’s been over a decade ago i and never got my deductible back. My car wasn’t valuable and my deductible wasn’t very high.

You literally won’t see a penny out of poor people who live in a slum apartment. They probably have outstanding debt from defaulted credit cards and other poor financial decisions anyways.
They literally don’t garnish wages unless you have enough money to live off of. If their wages are low enough to qualify for food stamps and welfare, they won’t actually garnish them.

What your settlement says and what you actually can realistically get from someone are two very different things.

While that guy is a dickhead, many renters have never actually tried to buy a house and blindly just say "I cant afford a 30% down payment on a $40k house (listed on market for $200k) because I wasnt born into money"
Walk into a bank (or better yet your local credit union) and talk to a loan officer.
They tell you if you quality, and what exactly to do if you dont qualify.

They make money off of your loans, they want to give loans, they want you to sign up for their credit cards (which they make money off of) and for you to make a savings account (which they make money off of). They will tell you the quickest way to become eligible is to buy a car (with a car loan they make money off of)

Its all a game and its all arbitrary, your actual credit score is arbitrary, as is what the credit union will actually look at in your credit history.

I grew up with parents who rented house to house to house, I lived in 9 different houses as a kid. My mom stole my identity when I was 18 and defaulted like 6 credit cards in my name. I have medical debt and student loan debt.

Guess what?
I got a house loan, and a car loan. Ive paid that car off and got a second car loan.
I own a house, and I drive a 2020, and I have almost $10k in credit limit on my credit cards (which I get cash back on)

If you have an actual job that pays ok, its not hard to get a house.

both sides have a point to be quite honest.

on one hand destroying other people's property is shitty, especially when the act of destroying that property will impact the daily lives of dozens of other innocent people. you don't own the building, and you aren't lord of the land so you don't get to decide that happens on that land.

on the other hand, living in a densely populated residential area, even a high income one, can be absolutely maddening with the cacophony of unyielding noise all around you. it can literally be enough to drive a person insane. there is an actual medical condition op probably suffers from called misophonia as well, making things worse.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/misophonia

ultimately the solution is not to dump concrete into the plumbing system, but to buy your own land and property in an environment more suitable to your needs. if you can't make this happen, you absolutely have to do everything you can to restructure your life in such a way as to make it possible. the alternative is to live the rest of your life wreaking destruction on everything around you driven by your inconsolable rage, which is ultimately only a result of your own failings since you are unable or unwilling to solve the problem correctly.

My point is that the idea that you have to be "born into money" to be able to buy a 10,887$ house is ridiculous.

Try looking at pic related, its about 15 miles away from that Duncannon listing (this one is in the city of Harrisburg)
I'm still not believing the "born into money" requirement for buying a house like this.

The housing market is weird, and of course it's hugely driven by how much money or loans the buyers have access to. Houses don't tend to cost the same amount as the sum of it's material costs.
If you want to afford a nice house in the nice part of a nice, wealthy and desirable area, realize that every single person there wasn't born wealthy. Half of them, probably. But the other half are working upper class jobs. You could do what it takes to get a $250K a year income, or you can keep blaming others and making excuses.
If you want a better life for your family, then do what it takes to get one. Or learn to appreciate a simpler life.

What the hell would a "natural" housing price be? Obviously, things would be a lot different if the last several hundred years of history and economic development had never happened, but sperging about what house prices would look like under the gold standard or something is useless and inane.
Even if fractional reserve banking and all the other crap didn't exist, people would still be loaning each other money and the cycle would repeat in a different way.

fair enough, but presumably there is some way to provide this condition on the transfer of a property? (obviously I know nothing about real estate law)
It's common in my area for land sales to have certain conditions written into them so that the place can't be turned into a trailer park or pig farm or whatever.
I've seen land for sale where you weren't actually buying the land (it was in a trust) but you were buying a transferable thousand year lease...
Maybe a different kind of structure such as how they sell a license to use software without the buyer actually owning the software? It just seems like there would be some possible legal structure or strategy for making it where a piece of real estate was effectively taken out of the speculative asset trading game.

I can't remember all the caveats of foreclosed properties. I thought you couldn't inspect them first, but google just said otherwise.

I do think they're harder to get financing for but shit. $10k isn't exactly a king's ransom.

You shouldn't listen to the defeatist attitudes a la "it's IMPOSSIBLE to get a home!" but you should be realistic about buying a potentially crumbling shithole that you don't have the means to repair. Material costs are high, contractors can be expensive and are hard to nail down right now.

There's also the fact that buying a property is an investment in the neighborhood. Not every hood will magically gentrify. You may not lead a wave of young turks into a neighborhood; you may just buy a house to live next to crackheads for the next 5 years.

That being said, there's got to be opportunities out there. Just do the leg work and learn what you're getting into.

>I would be very surprised if that would be legally binding.
It is, this is how many US municipalities/states construct "affordable housing".
The developer initially enters into an agreement (generally in exchange for a zoning change or similar) with a community to build X% of homes/units to be sold/rented at no more than Y% of the median income level of the area. Then when the property is sold (as it often is immediately upon completion) that restriction remains in the deed. Obviously the encumbrance in the deed reduces the sale price of the house or development.
The problem is that: 1) the cost to construct in urban areas exceeds the sale price with these restrictions and 2) the inclusion of affordable housing drives down the sale price of the unencumbered homes/units, which needed to be higher to offset the cost. So unless you find a developer willing to build at a loss you run into situations where the affordable housing is never completed or built to a lower standard than the unencumbered housing, which in the latter case the governing body of the community generally seeks to prohibit.
The bottom line is that people have unrealistic and unsustainable expectations of lifestyle. They look at the yuppies living downtown in a "walkable" city and believe that everyone should be able to live like that not fully appreciating the cost of the infrastructure needed to bring services to a dense high-rise city center. These are the same people who seek to ban SFH zoning not realizing that multi-family housing costs 3x to build per unit under the assumption that denser = cheaper.
OP is a microcosm of this mentality, he wants his apartment complex to find the one company in town running electric lawn equipment that doesn't work, paying Jose and Jos-B to buy new equipment and then drive back and forth to plug in their chargers at the home office. Then when the complex raises his rents he'll complain about them jewing him.

>Why the fuck wouldnt you switch to electric anyway?
Because when you run a landscaping business you need your equipment to work a minimum 40 hours per week and not the 1-2 hours per week that consumer electric equipment is designed to operate for.
Let's walk through this from the perspective of the owner of a landscaping business, keeping in mind that most of these guys are owner-operators who have less than 5 employees and seldom have an actual storefront (effectively running their business out of their home).
>be landscaping business owner
>client demands you switch to electric equipment because some retard was pouring concrete in their toilets
>go out and either buy expensive consumer equipment or even more expensive commercial-grade equipment that may or may not exist
>send a crew out or go out yourself to the apartment complex in the morning
>batteries run out halfway though because you are mowing/trimming/blowing an acre of lawn instead of the 1/4 acre that consumer equipment is designed for
>your choice now is to bum a charge off the complex (still waiting an hour for charging time), drive back to your house/office to charge or swap out batteries (keeping in mind that batteries are the most expensive component of the equipment), or carry spares in the truck
>your batteries over time lose their ability to hold a charge, exacerbated by the fact that they go through five full charge/discharge cycles per day
>you now get to replace your entire equipment stock every couple of years assuming that the tools you bought are still compatible with newer-model batteries
The only upside here is that there probably is a critical mass of millennial/zoomer yuppies now who are willing to pay several times the regular cost for landscaping to virtue-signal on TikTok about how they're saving the planet by forcing their Hispanic landscapers to use electric tools. But you'd probably have to give your company a Silicon Valley name like LNDSCPR or something like that.

Well, you're describing the economic and financial reasons that make creating a "decommodified" housing unattractive, but that's kind of my point.
People keep selling houses for more money than they paid for it because they profit. And the new buyer will do the same thing.

Rentoid socialists could get it together and create their own nonprofit housing developments, but they won't, because they can't get anyone interested in throwing huge money away.
(in truth there are small intentional communities and religious groups who are doing just that, but they're a very small minority)

A couple years ago I had a hebrew prick of a landlord whom refused to help a family member after a pipe upstairs broke and flooded their apartment. The fucknozzle required a renters policy but wouldn't talk to the adjuster so the claim never went forward and thousands of dollars of stuff was ruined and the apartment was uninhabitable.

Anyways assuming the drain lines are pvc, mix one part hot blue pvc glue to eight parts hydraulic cement. Then add just barley enough water to mix it all into something that resembles silly putty. Now, hydraulic cement sets fast and the pipe glue will help fuse it to the inside of the drain line so flush that fucker right away. The volume of toilet water will move the mass a good 15-20 feet which will usually get it to the main trunk line where it can sit and do it's thing. I suggest at least three applications as to give solids in the waste stream a good place to get hung up.

Hydraulic cement will laugh at pipe snakes and high pressure sewer jets and require a tear out of that section to repair.
