My mom's face thing won't charge. I cleaned the contacts with IPA, I depleted the battery and charged to 100%, the output voltage is correct at ~7V. How can I open this up in the least destructive way?

I should say that it charges but cannot operate for > 1 min. I suspect the battery needs replacing.

Spudger or two and gentle heat like from a tea kettle?

ok, I will buy a spudger then. I currently don't have one. I don't mind waiting if it's the right tool.

Yea spudger deal. The metallic caps might pop off first and then the whole clamshell may come apart. Make sure there’s no screw hidden under stickers or labels somewhere.

Why do I always forget that this is a tool that exists? My first instinct was to get out the hacksaw and hotglue

>the output voltage is correct
this doesn't mean shit if it's a bad battery. does it stay at 7v or does it immediately drop when any load is applied and stay low? that means the battery has shit the bed

>My mom's face thing won't charge
>depleted the battery and charged to 100%
these are contradicting statements

This 7V was output by the charging station. My guess is the battery is bad.

>these are contradicting statements
stop trying so hard I corrected it in the first post

oh yes because
>I should say that it charges but cannot operate for > 1 min
makes much more sense
it charges but it doesn't charge
I see

it appears to be snapped or cemented together, rather than ultrasonically welded... may be wrong tho. personally I'd try an isesamo, my favorite opening tool, rather than a standard square spudger or any of those plastic picks

So I did get an isesamo. I didn't need it yet. I removed the top part held by two philips screws. The bottom will not release and I don't know what's holding it. It looks like there's two friction clasps on the bottom. Any ideas? Don't want to risk breaking it. My mom will kill me.

There also appears to be standoffs on the interior of the enclosure. Could I have to remove the grey part to access the screws? I hope not...

My plan is to replace pic related with Sony US18650VTC4

Can someone confirm this is safe? I matched capacity and voltage. I'm not sure about max continuous current.
