Homeless living general?

I'm pretty sick of my home town.
I have a roof over my head and get by but I always feel out of place and can never seem to make any real progress financially or in any other way.

I want to travel and try my luck in new places.
My current idea is to get a decent work van and convert the back into a livable space since that is about the best I can afford.

Just go couch surfing and hitchhike.

How do you couch surf in places where you have never been and have no people you know?

get an air matress or something comfortable to sleep on. I did it through Texas (I'm from Al.) That was my only problem, my custom van had a shitty bed. Also a small dog makes a good travel companion, good luck op, just go for it. What do you have to lose?

someone posted about his living van on SA, i think it was in the ask/tell subforum. This could be helpful

My ex's sister and her boyfriend live in a small camper. They are hippieish. Both have jobs that pay enough to get a small apartment.

1. Don't do anything to piss people off, rightly or wrongly it is usually illegal to be homeless. Don't make a shitton of garbage, dont panhandle, don't be a prick.

2. Don't park in the same place every night.

3. If possible, try to couch surf as much a possible.

4. Join a gym so that you can take good showers

OP here, Gym was at the top of my list so I could still look, and smell, like a normal person.

Buy a cheap tent and live in it at a park for 2 weeks. IF you can make it through that without any troubles then go for something more permanent.

I'm going to try moving the textbox way first, but if it doesn't work I'll be doing this. Best of luck OP

Look in the 4chan archives, under /o/, for some threads by a tripfag named Vandweller. This should give some insight.

This was written by him, but his threads give a far better insight into what it is like to live in a work van.

also, Working on living in a travel trailer sometime this fall myself.

>> No.228978

Not trying to be a buyfag here but you can find a decent Class B rv for like 8k or some travel trailer for a few grand if you drive a truck.

As for a van, at the very least you'll want a few marine batteries to drive various electronics and a good mattress.

Whether or not you wanna go full Vandweller on us depends on us may depend heavily on the depth of your wallet.

how do you live in a van if you need an address for car insurance/registration?

I like a van because it's the smallest vehicle(lowest gas mileage) that still has enough room for a bed. I'm planing on setting solar panels on the roof and a small battery bank for running electricity.

I always wonder. Do you actually lift weights since you pay for it, or you just go there only to take a shower?

op how do you expect to pay for gas?

>> No.229305

If are going to spend money on a gym just to use their shower, why don't you spend the money on a spot at a trailer park? You'll get electricity, water, and even WiFi!

Put solar panels on top to power your crap.

>I want to travel and try my luck in new places.
Moving to a different city will not change your "luck". You are still you. You still have the same skills. You will still face similar problems.

The people who improve their lives by moving have a plan. They move to a specific place for a specific reason (e.g. found a new job, found a cheaper house, etc.). There is no "luck" involved.

You need to figure out specifically what it is that you want to change. Only them can you determine where you need to move, and what you need to do when you get there, to attain that goal. Or, you might even find out that you don't need to move. For example, if you figure out that you want to change your job and become a skilled tradesman, then you'll know that you'll need to move to where there's a technical college and you'll know that you'll need to enroll. You're not going to figure that out by just driving around in a van.
