It's not dogshit, but there are better cad programs, tinkercad is like using pre made shapes to make shit rather than just drawing it like any normal CAD.

Do NOT use this
Use FreeCAD, or a combo of solve space and Qcad.

It's good for kids who don't know anything about 3d design at all.

Fusion 360 is incredible but I'm trying to transition my students to freecad. That's the problem with cloud services: they can change their TOS or just decide they hate you and shut your whole business down.

Freecad isn't great but as time goes on the interface will improve. 360 is amazing but as time goes on the licensing will become more restrictive (retroactively to your older work) and it will only get harder to get off the platform.

Also, since you're new: learn parametric. Get used to designing that way. It will save your ass in a thousand ways.

Do you work in an SM dungeon?
Freecad has always been terrible, and has barely improved.
Your students will use products like solidworks in the industry, dont make them get used to such an awful program.
I do wish there will be a proper '90% of the way' open source CAD program (examples are Kicad vs Altium, or blender). But for now, it doesnt come nearly close.
