What's the best, cheapest if not pirated, software for working on 2000-2010 GMC vehicles? Something that can hopefully talk to all the modules and code them.

Googled it. Website says: AlfaOBD is a software for the diagnostics of the vehicles produced by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) group.

Wut....

AFAIK, only the real GM tool with a subscription, or a nice autel or snap-on or other big brand, with subscription, can program / update the modules, because the actual database with the module firmware and updates is centrally stored and maintained by GM. Now, when it comes to just reading all the module specific stuff, controlling certain functions for diagnostics (opening / closing purge valve / disabling injectors), or even maybe programming the VIN in certain modules, there may be other options, maybe chinese pirated stuff. I myself would like a tool that can do the turning things on and off functions, while monitoring other sensors, that would be very helpful figuring out a problem I've been having.

GM also charges us to unlock modules to code them on top of the monthly subscriptions and 1000$ in scanners and dongles. If the coding fails for whatever reason (which it does often) you got to pay again to unlock the module to try again. Fuck GMC.

Lurking

Have 2003 Chevy.
Hint: OBDII port uses a non-standard protocol in several pre-2008 vehicles..
J1850-VPN
You usually discover this when any genetic code reader/scantool you plug in gives a communication error.

Good luck.

I've used a shitty chink Tech2 clone called VXDiag a few times. It's unreliable and hard to get going, plus you need your own laptop with internet to plug it in to. But did work for programming a new ECM on an 07 Sierra, reading the misfire counter on an 02 Grand Am, and doing the CKPS relearn on the same.
