Hi /diy/.
I recently inherited a house from my grandparents and will be moving into it in a couple of months. The house was built in 1985 and will need some remodelling in the inside. Wooden paneling on walls I'll probably tear down and replace with just painted walls. I'll need to remodel the bathroom, redo the heating system etc... But the real reason I'm posting this here is that it has a decent attic which I'd like to turn into a small workshop. I've been using all my stepdads tools for now but I obviously need to get my own ones. I live in the EU, what would be the best choice regarding common tools and brands? Also what is a good battery drill with decent power? And any reccomendations on what I need to check for the state of in a 35 yo house?

Why not skim coat?

>skim coat
Because the wooden paneling is such that it has a lot of crevices and gaps because of how the wood is aligned. It's bricks or concrete under that (probably concrete).

20k usd initially for the first year of remodelling. I'll try to do all the stuff I can myself. I'm an electrician by trade but working in IT as a c++ & Android dev. I definitely won't count the bathroom in this figure because I will be redoing the bathroom a year or two after moving in. Heating system also isn't in that budget. I have no idea about tools/materials/special labor honestly but I'm willing to put 2k into tools to get something that will be good for a longer while (like bosch blue I guess). This house is in croatia. I'll have 10k USD for every year for remodelling after first year.

Odds are the wall under the paneling might be rough to do paint, might need to do wainscoting it drywall over it. Then again if it's a newer house, might be okay aside from adhesives if used.

workshop in attic is retarded idea
you want ground level, preferably with wider/double door or better yet garage door
trust me, I store some rarely used tools in attic
and its a proper pain to use them

have you got a drive or carport?
those can be converted into nice workshop with tool storage in your utility room inside

Hm attic was pretty big that's why I was thinking about using it but I will probably need to build a garage so I'll put the workshop there after i do.

>>1972349
Not yet. I need to build the garage, i guess if i build it big enough i might put a workshop in there.

In Murika we have yard sales and estate sales, usually posted in the local online classified ads, where people sell their junk. When grandpa dies and all his old high quality they-don't-make-em-like-they-used-to stuff goes out on the lawn you can get incredible deals on used tools, it is just random and takes time to build up a collection.

In the meantime just buy specific tools as you need them, that way you don't end up with shit you don't use.

Yeah here people aren't rich enough to buy good tools usually.

obviously makita for aku, you can buy used as well, for handtools luxtools you can get in PeveC is pretty good, bauhaus is a ripoff. tools from Lidl are pretty solid as well, its lower mid tier but worth every kuna.
