If it was mine I'd fabricate a new top piece out of solid steel square stock with a big heavy steel lathe turned bushing at the top. Weld it up real nice and hot. Then I'd put some heavy ass plates on the sides and back. Grind off the webbing of the casting on that top part and drill/bolt through the entire plate and casting sandwich.

Something like pic related.

it just needs to not crack from the heat in the zone, it should be possible to braze back together.

i'd wager the brass filler is stronger than the cast iron, but you would have to spend a few hours figuring out how to get good penetration depth
maybe even grind some off, space it where you want it, and keep laying rods down until you have a big brass sandwich in between the pieces of iron.

This is why non-morons attach their toys to wide steel bases which prevent tipping and make movement stable, safe and easy. I've moved machine tools that way without paying a rigger and my shit CANNOT tip over.
There is a very interesting weld filler, Crown Alloys 44-40, that MIG welds heavy cast iron nicely. My pro machinistbros use it after I found out about it via aametalmaster forum posts. They repair lots of ancient machinery for a sausage factory. I'd use that after careful prep and fabbing support (from angle or whatever) to precisely located the part.

Remember kids, the only reason tall tippy tools lack stable steel bases is production cost. It's easy to make simple outrigger kits with wheels to transport machinery so do that and never take risks because that's stupid.

He started by just being a blacksmith selling his hammers, tools, and sculptures through facebook, insta, and youtube, just alike a ton of other blacksmiths and bladesmiths do. He only began to seriously push his youtube channel around the summer of 2016. He was dirt fucking poor at that point, barely able to make rent.

Youtube grew slowly for him, until it is what it is today. He was putting in 16 hour days making stuff, filming, editing, and uploading. Try it and you'll see how much work it is. He did this every day for around a year, 1 video a day. That's an absolutely insane amount of work.

If it's attached to a skid or outriggers wide enough so it cannot tip under any reasonable condition it's even safer than lifting from the top because you can leave it on the skid or outriggers (I use outriggers) for transport. I've moved several lathes, mills and T&C grinders that way safer than using a forklift (and without paying a rigger). Nothing should move that's capable of tipping over under its own unsecured weight . Steel is cheap enough and it doesn't go to waste (self and bro keep our kit for machinery moving as our collection continues).
For example if you sling load a lathe it's not supported securely when placed on a trailer or rollback. When I bolt crosspipe skids or outriggers to a lathe it cannot fall over. Easy as it could be, very low effort, cheap and versatile. I've seen some radical version on Practical Machinist but everything I do is simple.

Everything alec achieved, he did from his own hard graft.

Nobody gives a shit about youtube personalities, period. Its not just Alec, its all of them.
Just because you convinced a bunch of children to watch your show doesnt mean other people who are actually in trades or actually /diy/ are going to respect you.

His early videos were fantastic resources for getting into hobby blacksmithing though.

Alec figured this out to a T and he's probably been a millionaire for at least a couple of years. When you have 100,000s or 100,000,000 in your bank acc, you don't give a fuck about what people on the internet say about you.

Also his main audience is not kids, that's just disingenuous, and the swords he makes are very well done and way better than most "bladesmiths" today are capable of doing.

He's definitely more on the entertainment side of things now. I'm not going to judge that too hard. There's a place for it. If you haven't watched this guy already, Joey van der Steeg is pretty good for just quality forging footage and demonstration. Plus he forge welds tons of shit, which imo is one of the more flashy and cool things to do and impresses me since it is a thing I can only do inconsistently (I would like to blame it on my gas forge vs solid fuel but I probably just suck since the Black Bear Forge guy does many of his welds using a gas forge too). There was a dude named Rowan Taylor who has stopped making videos but he is also very great. He does more medieval and early anglo saxon types of work as opposed to more early modern/industrial revolution era stuff Joey seems to have going. Torbjorn Ahman is also great though his videos have no speech. He definitely has the most artistic sense in both his work and camera work imo.

Interesting, because you have repeatedly talked about people being "jealous" and "bitter" towards this faggot, when in reality nobody knows who he is except children on youtube.
I had to search for 5 minutes to find the video in the OP, I have subscribed to a ton of different /diy/ channels in the past and never even heard of this kid.

Young children who dream of having their own shops.

I have my own shop and I'm running it very successfully, when I see someone else who has succeeded I'm happy for them because I know the work it takes.

I travel around to a lot of blacksmith conferences and usually it's broke blacksmiths who hate alec the most. People who work day jobs and are hobby blacksmiths usually like him and see something to aspire to, while successful blacksmiths are either neutral or supportive.

Yes he achieved the most success through youtube but he would've done well without it by just selling tools, sculptures, and running classes. Most craftsmen use youtube, insta, and fb to market their work. Once you focus entirely on youtube, you begin to sell advertising and not the work itself.

>>1968049
I don't have a large channel, just someone I use occasionally to post videos when I want to promote a certain thing.
