I got fired from my acoustic ceiling job partially because of an incident I had with a drywaller. Normally we wouldn't be on the job at the same time, but it was a rush job so we were. We used scaffoldings on casters and would kind of scoot them around the room (hard to explain but basically walking it around without getting off with hip motion, you have to move around the whole room pretty quick to drop in ceilings). This drywaller kept worrying I was going to hit the wall, trying to stand between the scaffold and the wall, generally freaking out even though I had done this for a year and would never actually hit the wall. After a few hours of him whining, once I finished, I got off the scaffold and smashed it into the wall that he had just finished on purpose.

Union drywall and paint guys are typically Irish and would often be drunk at 6am and get in accidents. Of the accidents I recall that led to OSHA coming to the jobsite it was all drywallers and painters. One broke his arm while mixing lathe with a hole hawg, a few fell off ladders. Really fucking annoying for me when jobsites got locked down since we would have to start locking the casters on the scaffolding and couldn't do the scooting maneuvers.

I was an office worker at a transportation company for about 1.5 years:

they will almost never fire a driver for being an asshole. I can't speak 100% for every single trucking company but from my experience and what I've heard from others, here's the gist: every trucking company is up to its eyeballs in debt because they don't buy their equipment outright, they finance and make monthly payments. They are aboslutely desperate to keep meat bags inside the trucks, rolling and making revenue to keep things going. 99.9% sure what happened for that guy when he made an ass of himself was that his company's customer service guy spent 30 minutes giving a "heartfelt" apology over the phone, or via email, promising to strictly discipline that driver, and then all that happened internally was they shuffled around some driver routes so that driver wouldn't go back to that customer for at least a year for them to forget about it. the driver gets the most wet noodle slap on the wrist to the tune of "hey buddy that's a strike, 11 more of those this year and you're gone!" because they don't actually want to risk making him mad enough to quit (or fire him, lmao) since there's hundreds of company's out there looking to snatch unsatisfied drivers like fucking vultures. at the same time, the bean counters are rubbing their hands in glee because a customer complaint on file means they can deny that driver his annual raise when it's performance review time

the only way a driver gets fired is to fail a drug test or have drug related charge (insurance liability) or if they fuck up so monumentally at a customer that the customer actually fully discontinues service with that carrier, in which case the driver is quickly offered as a sacrifice to try and win back that customer.

Small engines suck. The nimrod who used to fix them at our shop quit, and management thinks "an engines an engine" so I keep getting shoehorned into fixing stupid Honda GX motors and chainsaws. Shop rates make repairs prohibitively expensive, so noting actually gets fixed, just cleaned and duct-taped back together. Parts are cheap tho, I guess, in comparison to heavy diesel, but the engines are basically disposable.

Machinist will be filled with incompetent people because you do not need certification to work in a machine shop in at least in some parts of the western world.
Other trades do need training and certification to practice like an electrician who needs to be licensed to work on certain stuff and to be licensed they would have needed to go through the apprenticeship and take a test to prove their knowledge.
With that all being said there are going to be lots of people who are really just machine operators claiming they are real machinists.
There is also another issue that machine shops tend to specialize in a specific machining process like there will be shops that just have lathes, others will just have milling machines, and others will just grind stuff either cylindrically or with just surface grinders.
This leads to people who will just know one machining process really well but fuck all about another so when people ask them to do something they will pay no heed to anything beyond what they know which will just get worse as they get older and set in their ways.

I dont sit behind a desk at all, the most computer work ive done is setting up nurse call systems and programming them but thats maybe 6 hours of my 40+ hr work week. low volt is pretty chill but if you want flexibility now id go with general but if youre younger then id go low volt, were going to be doing most everything soon anyhow.
