Cupped vs disc'd wire wheel? Whats the difference? Is one better then the other? What situations?

>> No.1900661

Cups are for higher rpm and aggressive stripping of rust, paint and scale, the disk wheels are generally less aggressive but you can only use them at hand or pedestal drill speeds or risk ending up looking like someone that rolled in a cactus, if the cactus had steel spines

Thanks I'll definitely be getting the cupped one then!

The knotted wire are quite literally the same in both the wheel and the cup, and they have the same exact RPM ratings you absolute retard

They will work identically, its largely preference. Sometimes you may find one or the other doesnt fit in a tight space, but thats pretty rare.
I never use cups, they dont last as long and are more cumbersome to use.

cup is for flattish surfaces. wheel is for cleaning beads or irregular shaped objects. Both remove rust, but one is more for smaller tight corners and the other is for flattish surfaces.

Cups are good for paint and rust, wire wheels I use for knocking flux off welds since they’re so thin

Can confirm, didn't have a cup wire brush at work to put on my angle grinder and used disk wheel instead. The thing kicked back and caught me in my arm. Funny thing is it didn't hurt one bit, but shit did it look awful.

Be sure you get one rated for the correct rpm. I used one and it broke because I was running at 11500rpm and it was rated for 8500rmp. Thing was a bitch to get off after is reamed itself onto the threads.

Cupped is also used to create a pattern on products so that scratches aren't noticed.
It has no purpose other than aesthetics.
Pic related is an example.
If they would have left the nose raw, a single scratch would stand out.

No, it isn't. That pattern is called "engine" turning, and you cannot do it with a cup wheel because it doesn't cut in the center.

>It has no purpose other than aesthetics.

Yes it does. Specifically, easier access or comfort in some positions/geometries, and greater contact on flat surfaces, which means faster work.

You have never used either of these tools, you didn't even do a good job googling it, I could hazard a guess that you don't even own an angle grinder. Just don't post, it's really easy.

I use HF bear/wire wheel and wire cup knotted, is there any point to not buying them if I am not gonna need bigger ones? Does a weiler brush last longer cause it ain't shut chink steel?

That was just the easiest example I could grab a picture of, faggot.
Its the most common pattern because its the simplest for a brain dead shop monkey like yourself to do consistently.
I've had cars on the floor in SEMA.
My conceptual prototypes would shit all over your proudest creation.
Go back to looking up dildo shiftknobs on eBay, you're outclassed ITT.

Have you ever used a cup brush anon? Even if you hold it in place it takes fucking forever to make just one circle that resembles anything close to this pattern. Definitely don't think this is how these are produced.

This.
They're both rated for the same rippems but the cups are no good for getting into tight spaces, and the wheels are shit in comparison to cups on flat surfaces. Buy one of both.
