How do you deal with bore holes? Do you just find less rotten wood?

I decided to poke an unfolded paperclip into the hole to unclog the sawdust since I don't mind if there are holes in a teaspoon/scoop.

I found many wormies in my wood, which it why the spoon ended up a weird shape. I let the beetle larvae location dictate the shape of my spoon. Adding holes and thinning sections that look more infested to make sure I don't have any bugs (or only have minimal bugs) in the end product.

>>1833261
Tea smell good, plus I figured antimicrobial tea chemical would soak into the wood and protect it somewhat from mould.

>>1833300
I boiled it for about 30 mins in tea, my only worry is any larvae hiding in the boob or end piece that would have died in there and might slowly rot from the inside out, but I didn't find any more bore holes and I've made my peace with potential rotting bug corpse in my spoon.

Shellac will hold up to spooning coffee just fine, it will not hold up to washing though, shellac has poor resistance to water. There is no real need to put anything on such a spoon, daily use will do the job for you, the oils from your hands will soak into the handle, the oils from the coffee will soak into the scoop.

Not that guy, I've had a set of wooden spoons for 10 years that I run through the dishwasher at least every other day. They're fine. I'll get at least 5-10 more years out of them. 15-20 years of regular washing with no rot? I wouldn't worry about it, and when they finally do die, just carve another one.

Oh that's a good point. Spoonanon here, I also have some store-bought wooden spoons/spatulas that I have has for years and run through the dishwasher. For artisan delicate spoons be gentle.

>>1851260
Maybe you've already met one but you don't know because they carve in secret.

Here I made dress for Tara.

Oh dubs! Well done me.

There is a dark dot on this side of the spoon but it is not protruding, this can potentially be a boob but I believe it is better suited to be an eyeball.

Bob is still not satisfactory but I think it will do for now. If I weaken the upper area too much carving downstream will be difficult.

You can snort cocaine out of a very tiny spoon. Some people grow a long pinkie fingernail for the same purpose. Carrie Fisher famously had one that was visible in some scenes of Star Wars. I guess you could make a separate bowl for cocaine as well, and consume it like cereal.
