When I see pics like this, I think that's no biggie, most shops have a rotor in worse condition they use as a doorstop.

I Used to work in a parts store. One day some dipshit blew a brake line out, and spent like 3 days working on his van in our parking lot, trying to do everything imaginable besides just replacing the brake line (I think the issue was he knew nothing about what type of flare his vehicle used, or what size the line was), so he kept trying to patch the line by like soldering it, or hammering a nail into the hole, etc, despite us telling him it would never work

I don't even know how, but he got it going, and bought a set of pads and rotors from us too. He came back a week later, saying our pads and rotors are junk and he wants a refund. He slaps the rotor on the counter, and the wear surface was like literally paper thin. It was a non vented, solid back rotor, but it was just a sliver of metal at this point, you could even shine light through it in spots.

We ask to see the pads, and sure enough he brings those in, and the metal backing on this is all chewed up, because the idiot installed them in backwards.

After I got out of that job, I seriously started thinking that it should be illegal to work on your own cars

FUCKING TWEAKERS MAN!

My boss at my last job is an absolute idiot cocksucker. We had a 2 hour commute 1 way so we'd carpool with the dipshit.

One day work 15 hours. Mostly fucking rain and lighting while getting bitched at between lightning strikes on giant metal fuckery.

Finally done, time to sleep 4 hours and do it again.

Flat tire.

Of course no spare because he bought a new ford off the showroom floor and proceeded to immediately baja in it from day one.

Lots of dirt roads so when i drive i got 2 spares, impact, 3 ton racing jack, and like 8 plug kits between the car, home, and work.

Go get plug kit. He won't let me do it. Proceeds to shove about 8 plugs just through the hole and then bitch at me. By the end of it me and another guy were cooking hot dogs on a fire at 10pm while dinglefucktard was trying to silicone a thumb sized bolt into the hole he cut for it.

Take video throughout this faggotry and share with everyone i know and tagged him on fb with it.

Tries to fire me. But little fat Napoleon refuses to acknowledge that he is a pubescent tard wrangler and the real boss shows up and watches video. He's flabbergasted. Owner of the company randomly shows up so he watches it. Thinks it's a company truck. Jumps everyone's ass and me and Napoleon get 3 days off work as "punishment."

Spend the next 3 or 4 years with a hidden camera at all times around fucknuts.

Find another job. Walk into office. Pull up video montage of stupidity of boss on youtube. Turn 360° walk away.

Why do retards do this? We have a few pieces of equipment where I work that have control panels that pretty much look like this picture but crammed into a 3x3ft box and obscuring terminal blocks, contactors, PLCs, etc. Pretty sure the dudes who installed it used 10M cables for absolutely everything, including proximity switches no more than 3-5ft away, and just wadded up the excess and stuffed it in the bottom of the enclosure. Every time you open one of the panels cables fall out everywhere and you have to wad them back up and stuff them back in when you’re done. God forbid you accidentally pull one if not several out in the process since, surprise surprise, absolutely nothing is tagged and all the prints have tons of errors and zero documentation of various modifications made over the years. They’ve made major changes to that equipment and yet those panels have never been addressed.

You’d have to see the equipment in person to understand, but the whole thing is riddled with shitty engineering, especially everything electrical. There are junction boxes absolutely everywhere that typically aren’t even in the same location as the part of the equipment they’re tied into, leading you on a wild goose chase every time you need to figure out what’s causing one of like 50 fuses in a completely separate main power cabinet to blow.

Assuming they're meant to run on AC in the first place. But as they're probably incandescents, they've got a large positive tempco, meaning you can get thermal runaway if there's no voltage limiting feature across each lamp. If one lamp gets a bit hotter than the others though manufacturing differences, then its resistance will increase, therefore increasing the voltage drop across it, which makes it get hotter, etc.

Like the opposite problem of having a bunch of parallel LEDs (negative tempco) running on a single current source.

Those are clearly the small christmas lights which certainly are meant to run on AC. They run in series at 2.5v or something, but each one has a reverse fuse (not sure the proper name, but it fuses short at high voltage) to keep the rest of the lights on when one bulb blows. That means each bulb that burns out puts more voltage across the rest of them, which makes the rest of them blow faster. Oh nevermind, the "reverse fuse" you're talking about basically is back-to-back zener diodes. Or a TVS diode, or MOV or whatever. Varistors of some kind I guess. But if their resistance goes to zero when experiencing overvoltage, instead of just starting to conduct to maintain a certain voltage, that would be permanent and a risk for the entire string of bulbs. On the other hand, standard zeners or MOVs would probably overheat if used for such a purpose.

No, it's a little bit of wire wrapped around the filament leads and designed to arc and then melt to a permanent connection. Otherwise one bad bulb puts the whole strand out.
>that would be permanent and a risk for the entire string of bulbs
Yes, that's what I said. You have to replace the bulbs that are out soon or more will go out, but they are more resilient than you seem to think.

It's indeed 1900's, it is a generally sturdy brick house, just everything wood was totally ruined by bad DIY jobs and a leaking bathroom with more bad repairs on top.
Also yes previous owner had a shed full of weed but nothing related to the Crawlspace. In the end it didn't cost much extra to replace as everything was going to come out anyways, this just added a few wooden joists in the end. But it was quite a shock.
