You buy a Lycoming engine because that's the thing that everyone else does. Tested and proven, no reason to reach elsewhere.

You need to calculate how much lift the plane will have and how many horsepower the engine needs to be to maintain x lift for all the things you want it to do. When you have that all figured out, you'll know what engine you'll need and should have found places to source such an engine.

You buy an aircraft engine because you don't chance that shit.

Honda Viking
Rotax
Lycoming
Jabiru

Fuck it, get a Hayabusa Suzuki engine and strap that to something.

Any of the names above + kit plane or whatever in to YouTube will yeild endless examples.

Personally have flown many Rotax powered aircraft and currently own one of a Lycoming but rotax is the correct choice. They make engines for all kinds of badass shit including a bunch of BMW motorcycles

used to be big into aircooled volkswagens. I saw an add somewhere to convert a flat four into an aircraft motor. seems dangerous, but they're cheap so

actually, you just get a chevy LS3 and throw one of those special gearboxes on it, and rock out with your cock out. lycoming and continental fucking suck, lmao @ paying 75,000 for 110 horsepower, you can be blowing 450hp at like 4000 RPM with a chevy.

Get a battery powered leaf blower

Visit the Experimental Aircraft Association and learn from the professionals. Aviation is not the place to just randomly do shit and knowledge is free.

You should already be a fabricator/weldor/machinist/aircraft mechanic. All those are fun and useful skills which complement each other. I'd build one but can't pass a flight physical because heart attack.

RotaxAnon is wise.
