Been reading the 1994 JC Penny Christmas catalog and all the home furnishing section is hardwood floor bedrooms and carpeted bathrooms. I don't remember this being a thing at all. My grandma did have of those soft vinyl rubbery toilet seats but those can be cleaned easily enough.

Early 2000s when I was a little kid we moved into a house an old lady had owned new since the 80s.
There was shag carpet in all 3 bathrooms, shag in the kitchen, shag in the laundry room. every room had shag. You could stand in one part the kitchen see 4 different kinds of shag at once, From the kitchen, hallway, living room, master bedroom. Weird house. Parts of the kitchen had weird discolored stains, all the bathrooms stunk real bad
