No, really, what the fuck. I lived in stick house before, and now I had moved to brick house. What the fuck, during summer it is fucking too hot, AC can't keep up (I bought system thinking that brick has same thermal insulation as fucking 10 cm of fiberglass insulation and drywall). During winter (mild winter, rarely gets below 0C/32F), AC and oil heater can't keep up with heating the shit.
I ended up installing thin sheet metal studs, thin (2,5 cm thick, 1 inch i guess) styrofoam insulation (because I don't like fiberglass, it required PPE to work), and drywall. Now I can use AC only to heat up the house (thank got I had some slack in copper lines for AC).
Also, this is reason why people in cold places used wood to build fucking houses.

Cavity wall is a meme. Literally 1 inch of Styrofoam insulation and drywall would fix the shit.
Brick is a shitty building material. Only reason why Europoors were using is because clay was cheaper than wood, and they had sun to dry the shit. People from frozen shitholes were using brick only to build a fireplace.
Wood is better, because it is a better heat insulator, and allows for 10 cm (4 inches) of insulation inside outside walls.
Metal studs are better, because they allow thick insulation, and it is much easier to deal with than wood or brick.
Concrete is better, because it is stronger than brick.

Because earthquake spics were smart enough to add rebars to equation. And in many cases pored concrete box around it. Or steel beams in bigger older buildings.

What really pisses me off in your chilean brick house is its thermal insulation and its thermal capacity.

You don't really need base isolation for 1-3 storie building.
You either need rebars in brick, or/and concrete beams around bricks. I'm EE, not architect, so I don't know details.
I mean, it is possible to make earthquake proof brick buildings. But it is only viable if brick is cheaper than concrete and you have cheap working force. This is why you will never see brick house in Japan (earthquake chinks), but you will see a lot of them in Chile (earthquake spics). Which are pretty old, which means they don't collapse.

Well, when it comes to Metalcon and similar wood stick shit, you have no option but insulate. Even that shitty 2-5 cm fiber glass insulation is enough to keep nicer temperatures inside.
Electricity is expensive. Insulation would pay for itself in no time. Sure, you can burn wood, or kerosene... But wood burning thing would be expensive, and kerosene smells horribly.

>Not every type of brick is fire resistant. In most cases you would need to rebuild the wall, which is a fucking challenge.
There's this fun little experiment you can do even at home! thrown a brick in a fire, and a piece of OSB, see one of the two will last the longest!
Or what about an 800 year old cathedral on fire built when they still didn't know what they were doing. Guess what parts were undamaged, it weren't the wooden constructions.
Try to do the experiment where you submerge the two in water for a couple of days, to simulate a leaking pipe, see which one comes out the best.
Just admit your glue-woodchip-drywall-wood abominations are highly inferior in terms of durability and stop embarrassing yourself.

>There's this fun little experiment you can do even at home! thrown a brick in a fire, and a piece of OSB, see one of the two will last the longest!
OSB doesn't carry load. So correct comparison will be with 2x4 (10cm x 5 cm) in the fire.
>Or what about an 800 year old cathedral on fire built when they still didn't know what they were doing.
800 years ago, there were no different bricks for structures and for fire places.
>Try to do the experiment where you submerge the two in water for a couple of days, to simulate a leaking pipe, see which one comes out the best.
Galvanized steel beam.
>Just admit your glue-woodchip-drywall-wood abominations are highly inferior in terms of durability and stop embarrassing yourself.
Who needs house to last over 200 years anyway? It is unsanitary.
>Yes all our medieval buildings are destroyed by now because of earthquakes. Oh wait, they aren't.
Hm... Why every time when slight quake hits Italy, their fucking shithoues collapse?
>just admit that you don't know what you're talking about
Yes, just admit that 99.9% of brick houses that are already built have piss poor insulation, compared to 99.9% of wooden houses.
>western-europe nowadays where they have one of the strictest building regulations in the world.
Oh, look, we made finally insulation standards in 1980-90... While US had those strict heat insulation standards for years. While Russia had proper insulation standards for years. While Finland was building proper insulated house for years. Know why? Because in -20 C heating is expensive, and you need it, because you would die without it. Because in +100 F air conditioning is expensive.
In your westen europe, it rarely gets below -5 C. No big deal having shitty insulation there.

And speaking of insulation, you need at least 10 cm of fiber glass in Russian climate.
That is a really thick wall you got there, with 2 layers of brick. Thicker wall - less area.
With SIP panels, you can reduce it to 7-8 cm, and in case of fire you just rebuild the shit, since it is dirt cheap.

SIP panels are the future. They need to find a way of attaching steel sheets and drywall to Styrofoam.

OSB is used extensively so yes it's a correct comparisan. And as if 2x4 wood would come even come close to brick in a fire, lmao. Brick may crack in extreme cases but that doesn't matter really much in a vertical load, prefered to an ash pile imo.
>800 years ago, there were no different bricks for structures and for fire places.
Yeah obviously everyone used the same bricks and they were all superior to modern technologies especially in fire safety.
>Galvanized steel beam.

Yeah building things to last is so stupid (wtf?).
>Hm... Why every time when slight quake hits Italy, their fucking shithoues collapse?
Have you ever visited Rome?? Last time i checked the Colosseum was still there. I'm not from Italy but our 500+ year old buildings are doing pretty well.

You don't know what you're talking about. Cavity walls were pretty much standard early 20th century and the vast majority of buildings were built after WWII so i really don't get where you're getting this from.
>Oh, look, we made finally insulation standards in 1980-90... While US had those blah blah blah..
Still no arguments here. There's literally nothing that prevents you to build a highly insulated masonry house and it's done all the time now. And most efforts for olders houses for better insulation usually go to the roof that's ironically a wooden structure.
And using Russia as an example to support your case, how desperate are you? They regulate the temperatures in their commieblocks by opening their windows in -40° weather because the local power plant doesn't give a fuck how hot it gets in your room.

This is what was happening with brick, when it was getting hit with water, and got soaked really bad. I had hard time killing fucking mold. Tons of bleach and detergent was wasted.
With siding/drywall/fiber glass insulation/metal frame, I would just replaced affected area, since it is literally held by 20-30 screws. It would be much faster and easier, than trying to kill mold inside of brick pores.
>They regulate the temperatures in their commieblocks by opening their windows in -40° weather because the local power plant doesn't give a fuck how hot it gets in your room.
See, really good insulation.
Do you know why they are giving so much heat? Brick commie blocks always don't get enough heat, despite cavity wall and shit.

are you dutch? Here we use external wool and plaster it, layer of aeratedTerraTM bricks is the same but our aeratedTerraTM bricks are much wider and we frame the whole thing with RC, do you have issues with stability of cavity walls or mold build up on rock wool?
