they dont use airflow to increase or lower resistance because air is compressible so that wouldn't work very, too springy.

they use magnets and a flywheel. the energy the operator expends on the machine gets turned into waste heat via magnetic friction. the fans help keep it cool

Remove impeller
install correct size pulley on impeller shaft and a generator (car charger or something) to run said generator at correct average speed to get efficient battery charging. Draw electricity from battery either directly or through an inverter if you want to power AC devices.

Go tell that to Brian Shaw, who despite being retardedly strong and fast for his size (450lbs and 6' 8") couldn't max out the Concept 2 rower. Impeller unrestricted tries to move as much air as possible, with just resistance in mind a 10 inch impeller has huge range of resistance to offer as it just gets more and more inefficient past certain massflow but still and increases resistance and "wastes" energy dumped into it.

Instead of making lump of cast iron angry with eddy currents you just throw air around the room randomly. Small room would actually get heated by this noticeably (though nearly 80% of the energy in the entire exercise is dumped into the surroundings by the body of the human doing the rowing because of huge metabolic and biomechanic losses) but the even the randomly agitated air actually improves the transfer of heat energy away from the room, bit like blowing on your food makes it cool faster.

So its true that I can't use the turbine to make current? Even if it IS made of plastic? That's all I want to know I don't want to use a separate generator I just want straight elec coming from the "turbine" itself

Fuck it I'm gonna wrap it in copper coil with some rubber underneath and attach magnets to the "frame" that spins around the center axle of the turbine. Then run wire fron the copper into a large battery and wire up some resistors and such if needed and see if that will work. I'll keep you uposted if anyone want but if no one says they're done then I'll only post again if something hilarious or catasrophic happens. Thanks for the advice

Why would you have to supply an alternator with power? It will produce 12V, but i kinda doubt that an automotive alternator could be actuated by a pedal turned by OP.

Car alternators dont have permanent magnets in them.
The regulator feeds a rotor coil to create a magnetic field to excite the outer stater windings and make the power. The regulator just changes how much current is flowing through the rotor to increase or decrease the magnetic field to regulate the voltage being produced.
If you dont have something to get the alternator going, its just going to spin doing nothing.
