Artistic license. Black linework and shadow needs a lighter color for contrast if the design is to pop. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tincture_(heraldry) The practice is ancient, but it's still applicable to graphic design, particularly things like logos that need to be legible and distinct.

The problem with these tests is they always pit Gorilla and T-Rex (2 premium brands of "heavy duty" duct tape against entry level duct tapes. No shit they will do better.
What I'd like to see is, for instance, how 3M's professional "heavy duty" range of products fare against T-Rex and Gorilla.
