How do I know when to replace my spark plugs or just clean off any buildup and gap them?

They don't look that bad, why are you checking them?
If you have reason to check them, they are cheap enough to just replace as maintenance anyways

ive never once gapped a spark plug thats meme level retarding

you know when to replace your spark plug when they stop producing a nice spark. you can check spark by grounding the spark via 2x alligator clips and a wire. one alli on the threads of the plug and the other to batt - or a good chassis ground. or just hold it against your block with a pliers or something. then crank and observe. make sure is plugged in. you can get shocked pretty good pretty easily so keep your tongue off these if possible

Real men use glow plugs. Go back to b/ troll

everyone point and laugh at this fucking retard

correct

Holy shit you're retarded.
>don't use a specialty tool that's less than a buck and takes almost no time
>instead hook some wires on to it and take a whole lot longer to do the job
Even when they're brand new the gap could be off and cause suboptimal performance. And I doubt you can eyeball that.

I once had a too big gap on a small 50cc engine because I didn't check first.
And holy shit, it had like 2/3 less power than normal. I guess it's due to the spark generator beeing weak in general and the rotor (magnetized iron) bring 25 years old but definitely no snake oil

Youuuu don't "need" an intake heater or glow plugs.

-40c here during the winter

you think equipments gonna start without glow plugs or intake heaters? i go through ether by the case.

>>1586265

no but i can eyeball good spark vs bad spark instead of trying to eyeball a gap like some mongol wearing his pants on his head

If the center electrode is worn down to the point where it's rounded off instead of squared off then it's time to replace them.
Also if they're incredibly oil-fouled you should replace them.

That being said modern sparkplugs are made with osmium and will literally last the life of the engine, or so I'm told.

You don't have to include c or f with -40. It's the same.

I use my gramps ol plug file and just file the electrode flat again.

Might spend some time learning about why certain gaps are used. Temperature and arc voltage are really important to a proper running engine. Though most plugs are "close enough" for daily driving.

aw, that's a cute engine there anon.

>> No.1587222

Just replace them if they are out already. You're not gonna be able to puzzle out if they are in spec or not and you really only have to change them a few times in a modern engine. Change them, so you can rule it out in the event of a misfire down the road.

pretty much this

seriously what kind of shit dip would accept gapping a spark plug as satisfactory during a troubleshooting process. replace the fucking thing if you cant tell the difference between good and bad/no spark.

>>1586946

thank you. i knew that but a reminder never hurts

>>1586947

youre the kind of guy that runs high octane in anything he owns thinking its better in some way arent you

i realize there are certain spark characteristics that work well with a range of combustion chamber conditions but for the purpose of this post i dont believe OP is attempting to qualify for the indianapolis 500 this year

not to mention the average weekend warrior is losing a whole lot more numbers by running the wrong tune for the wrong elevation while thinking its the best its ever. If theyre concerned about perfecting the gap of their spark plug well then fuck me I'm literally at a loss for words
