As of late I’ve been wanting to start on electronic projects (Arduino/ Raspberry pi) but I’m not sure which ones would be good for a beginner like me.
Do you guys have any advice/ project ideas for me, I would really appreciate it. (Links to buy materials would be greatly appreciated too)
:)

Lots of people start with a radio. You can get all sorts of “All In One” kits. There’s a company called Elenco that makes a lot of project like that.

Do you have a multimeter? Do you have a soldering iron? Do you know how to use them?

The power supply is a good one to start too, and will aid you in future projects.

But if you’re completely starting from scratch, learn the basics of electricity before you start anything. Otherwise you will be stuck with “THE MOST COMPLETE STARTER KIT” and have no fucking clue what to do with any of it.

It sounds like you need to figure out if you really want to do this hobby first. Do at least a LITTLE bit of research before you start begging for handouts. Start lurking the /ohm/ thread at least.

I do own a soldering iron, but most of the time I usually use it to fix wires or for desoldering components off of circuit boards on my free time. As for the multimeter, I don’t really have any uses for the moment.

Go to a recycling center or an e waste drop off. Ask if you can have junk, usually at the recycling center they don't even bother asking any questions. Take stuff apart. Electronics is a very wide field. It'd be great if you were also very familiar with some chemistry, and magnetism. Magnetism is pretty damn important too, applied science has a great video.

Get a multimeter. They’re cheap and kinda important for electronics stuff. You can use them to trouble shoot a lot of things and make sure the correct parts are getting the correct power.

B!

And I have a list of some other stuff I wanted to order. Maybe some potentiometers and a big resistor pack and some of those tiny mini Arduinos to fux with something basic. Variable resistor(s) too? Oh and buck/boost converters. I was watching some videos and I want to build a power supply because that seems to be one of the first things people make but I think I need an old PC.

Two other things: I wanted to attempt to make a jumper pack for my car out of 18650s. I figure if I do it right, it doesn’t have to be fuckhueg but rather a compact one that I could hook up for 5min and it will give her enough juice to crank over a low battery. And then a power bank for these printers at work that run off of a 7.4V pack and I think they use a 9V 1A charger.

One of those should be a good place to start. The 9V 1A charger seems the easiest. Or get those “Build your own radio” kits.

I've been in the trade for many years and i am currently finishing my degree. I will have to say that the best way is to just start playing around with things and you will figure everything out on your way. Then you will take on bigger projects or you will decide that the whole hobby isn't for you, which is no biggie.
