Here's how a fresh cut kinda looks like. I've already tried joining them as they are with electric tape or whatever it's called, but it didn't work,

There's no point in repairing them if you don't get rid of the goddamn cat. I assume it belongs to your bf, so maybe he has to go as well.

>> No.1537296

the white fibers are just string that they use to make the cable stronger. You could tie them together to keep the weight off the actual wires. The colored parts are what needs to be connected, but they are coated in a thin insulating layer. You can hold them over a lighter for a little bit to burn the insulation off and then twist them together, that usually works. It looks like there is a solid white thing in there, not sure what that is but if it has any copper in it you should connect those too. I'm guessing it has a microphone or some ricer bullshit that needs more wires.

Ok so it's a little blurry but there's a kicker, unwind these bastards and they have more fiber inside. Now the big golden bastard has a solid white inside of it, and inside there's more white stuff with a couple more copper wires as well. Yes, these have a mic too. I'll try the burning thing. You're saying the actual coloured ones have a coating themselves right?

>> No.1537300

>>1537298
the colored ones are definitely coated, the copper colored one may also have a clear coating. It looks like the copper is wrapped around the white, so my guess would be copper+white = microphone, red+green+black=speakers. Also once you have it working be sure to wrap each wire in some tape to keep them from shorting.

>> No.1537303

burn the coating off the wires before reconnecting

>> No.1537306

If you want to stand any chance of fixing this you need to solder the wires back together. Twisting wires back together means it will break the moment any pressure is put on it. So either buy a soldering iron and learn to use it or accept that the headphones are broken, im afraid those are your choices.

USB or 3.5 mm? Regardless, burn the coating off anything copper and solder it to the corresponding wire on the other side, and re-insulate each individual wire with shrink tube or electrical tape, it's not rocket science.

Quit buying squid branded headphones.

The fibers are for strength. Higher end uses Kevlar which will dull a knife.

You will need to separate all that from the wires and remove any coating on the wires. Then solder them back together. Working with flexible wire like that is a real bitch.

3.5 mm, but as you can see it's a single jack for mic and headphone. I'm sorry, I got these on a pack with the mouse, keyboard and the mousepad. Ok I'll unwind each wire, separate every fiber from it, hold a lighter to it for (time), then wind them together because I don't have a solder. Wish me luck

Also yes, I acknowledge you told me it's worthless without a solder, and my best option is likely just taking it to someone. I'll wait for your last appraisal before I burn em.

>> No.1537364

>>1537358
Cables looks be separated from supports quite nicely, how ever i would recommend against burning as that technically effects coppers conductivity as recedue from paint stay on the copper surface.

My advice is to use fine sand paper to get most of it. Burn to get rest loose and use sand paper again to remove recedue. This way you get cleanest connections.

Also before you make any permanent connections with heat shrink test everything. You dont want to be making everything looking good to find that it does not work.

>> No.1537372

>>1537358
Soldering isn't that hard, you can learn it for this and call it a life skill. I would recommend separate flux in addition to the iron and solder, and heatshrink too if you want to be fancy.

>> No.1537376

So glad I stopped buying wired headphones. I do not miss dealing with this shit.

Future suggestion though, if you hate wireless, buy headphones that disconnect up at the ear. That way if your cat chews up the wire or general wear fucks the wire up you can just buy a replacement wire online for 10-20 bucks.

Can buy a clip on mic for 10 bucks that sounds way better than the one that comes with the headset too.

looks like I'll have to get a solder huh... all I have is this shitty nail file. This is what a single pass did to a plastic cover on a hb2 pencil. If I wait for tomorrow I can probably get sandpaper and maybe a cheap solder plus... flux.. and iron... and heatshrinks...? If you're absolutely sure I should play it safe on this one then I'll wait. I'd love to wing it but... well sometimes I guess it's just not worth it.

Holy fuck nuggets, OP. Just crank your soldering iron's heat up a bit and you can just kill the enamel with a solder blob while you tin the wire. A nice two-fer. Yeah, I did that too. I had an issue where the cable was often braking at the headset so I used a 4 pin xlr, because 4 pin jack plugs and sockets are unreasonably expensive for some reason and an bulky xlr is easier to work with anyway. I had no problems with them ever since (before I had to fix them 5 or 6 times), probably because the plug has a better grip on the cable so it doesn't fuck it up. It also looks professional even though I had to burn a hole through the case of the headset but the socket covers it up
