well….i'm gonna try to talk nicely….not gonna be salty this time…..and explain what i was saying and why i made a hole in a battery to prouve that i'm right...A lithium battery is composed as a thousand leaves. It is a long band wound on itself and one side is the anode and the other one is the cathode. Since it is not practical to have batteries a tenth of a millimeter thick and 1m long, we wrap it on itself to give a battery of a few mm thick.
When it is damaged enough( u make a hole on it ), it can create a bridge between the two sides of this band, (a short circuit). If the short circuit does not leave enough current (or if the battery is already discharged) then the battery will simply discharge quickly, possibly heating up. But if the short circuit passes a sufficient amount of current, it can melt the plastic, or even lithium (it melts at 180 ° C which is very little for a metal) and obviously create a short circuit more important. Then follows a domino effect which leads very quickly to a production of flammable gases by boiling and electrolysis, rupturing the outer shell and catching fire when the soft and hot lithium comes into contact with the water vapor of the air .
