Personal projects with already established dimensions don't really play that way, you know that.
Anyway yeah that's the plan, I just ordered some nice galvanized steel to bend and weld up. Can't wait to breathe in all the success.

If a project is subject to constraints like that, it doesn't sound very "personal" to me. You said that you "can't" as if you're dealing with a client that doesn't want you to modify whatever the end caps are going on. For a "personal" project, that would be on the table as a consideration to weigh against the trouble of making custom end caps. Of course, you haven't said what they're going on or why they need the parameters you've given.

It might not have been desirable to do so, but for example you could have purchased different equipment with different mounting points, modified the mounting points on the ones you had, or built an adapter.

Sure, but on a personal project, you're the one deciding what the constraints are, and if something turns out to be impractical or otherwise undesirable you can change them.

if i had purchased say a different set of lights then the light bar i made would have to conform to a different set of mounting points for the different lights. i still have to conform to the specs that come from the thing i got. unless i make my own bracket to mount it to, then i can attach it however i want to my lightbar. but then i have to conform the bracket to mount to the tapped holes on the light.
there are definately things you cant change on a personal project. dont even think of saying *just drill and tap ur own holes into the led bro u dont have to use their pre-existing holes* thats a stupid idea

pic related, def recommenced these lights to anyone with poor illumination they run off 12v so its easy to hook upto existing vehicle systems

Sheet metal came in today.
Bent to shape nicely, welds were sloppy but that's what grinders are for so it turned out alright. Don't think I'll need to harden it.
