Hell yeah. I was Just about to push the button on a Dewalt drill (just drill and battery for $99). Matter of fact I asked a guy that works there on his opinion and he mentioned the clearance rack and I saw that there and was like whoa. I got to get it. On Amazon and on Home Depot it's like $269 before tax. I went back past the clearance section the next morning (had to keep going back to the store for plumbing shit) and there were only three boxes left when originally I saw 7.

If anyone doesn't already know, the way clearance works at home depot goes like this.

Item goes on clearance, reduced 25%.
3 weeks later, item reduced to 50%
Another 3 weeks later, item reduced to 75%.
3 weeks after that, item now rings up as $0.01 and can't be sold. It's basically trash at that point but there's some checks to make sure an employee can't just mark a penny sku down and give it away. It still happens though depending on the store and the manager.

Also keep in mind that every employee is able to just give up to $50 off any purchase at any time. You'll need to convince one that knows how to use their computer system though, so the guy pushing carriages can't do shit for you. Any department supervisor or sales associate can do it easily though.

I work at Home Depot (Hardware). We have some crazy shit on clearance that never even gets put on the shelf because it's never found or there's no room. Also doesn't help that the dumbass MET (the guys that are supposed to set new product when it arrives) leave shit up in the racking for months until it eventually goes to a penny and can't be sold.

One thing that's been on clearance for about a year now is a Makita compressor that's $330. It could be bought for $80 if anyone actually knew about it.

>>1494643

It doesn't work like that all the time especially for power tools. they'll sit at 10% off for weeks almost months until they go down a bit more. For example there's a Milwaukee Fuel set at my store, the last one, that's been at 45% off for probably two months now. It'll likely go to a penny before it's purchased because it's just sitting in the racking.

Applying discounts also doesn't require any knowledge of the "computer system" either, it's simply applied at any register during checkout.

>> No.1495113

>>1494621
But no. Even if the set would appear similar Onehell and Parksahid aren't that good even though you can do stuff with them no problem. The biggest difference is getting into the Makita 18V ecosystem and on top if that an Onehell impact and drill kit would be 200 euros in Finland.

Is that the same company as Sidchrome?

A few months back I started getting ads on my Normiebook from this company called Boxo. I googled it and it looked like they are a branch of Sichrome (the Snappy of Australia?). Their selling point seems to be these tool sets with a foam liner that will fit perfectly in the drawer of your Boxo box. So good luck trying to fit that special extension you use all the time in your socket drawer.

Anyway they were at trade shows and trying to get tool trucks going and compete with Snappy-Matco-Mac, I’m not sure how much success they have had. The stuff is really expensive for Asian made tools.

If it's the actual clearance system then it's the 25% system 99% of the time.

And it depends on the store and where the markdown dollars are at, but in a lot of stores, the cashiers don't just apply the $50 for any associate. It's pretty much based on how much the managers give a shit though.

The highest value item I saw given out was a $400+ skylight that went to a penny, and my manager just gave it to some mexican contractor.

>> No.1495271

>>1495191

The "actual clearance system" hardly ever goes by 25% amounts. I have verified several dozen items from cheap $5 things to the Milwaukee tools I described above are under Clearance in IMS and also appear in the Clearance app and have done the math on the amounts. It's really a craps shoot, sometimes we'll find a whole box of penny things that went to 99.9% off before they were even stocked, or on the other hand a power tool or hand tool set (like the ~$300 Husky one) will sit at $200 off for months.

Penny items are supposed to be sold if the customer finds them, but we usually turn them down. It may result in more work though so sometimes the manager will approve a penny sale. So get to searching and DON'T ASK AN ASSOCIATE to scan it before you get to a register, if it's a penny item the associate will likely explain that it can't be sold and take it, if you're at a register you can probably get it for the price if you throw a big enough fit.

penny items are a weird thing as they are the only product that you are encouraged to refuse the sale to the customer, it just depends on how much of a mess it will be. i've allowed their sale in the past but at other times have refused to hand it back to the customer in the aisle as soon as i scanned it and found the reduced price. hell ive even done the forbidden and purchased the products myself without anyone noticing...

you guys in MET should know this, once products are down to a penny they are to be packaged up and sent back to the manufacturer for a rebate as unsold discontinued merchandise. the store looses that rebate and looses the entire return value of the product if sold, selling it for a penny is pretty much equal to someone walking out the door with it.

someone actually tried to scam our store with a penny item, they purchased it at full price at a store 30 miles away for $800, returned it at our store because they wanted to "ring it up with a different credit card" then walked away with it to buy some other products. the cashier realized the mistake and called the managers, whom walked over to self-checkout and ripped the $800 product out of his hands and told him to GTFO.

It's like goodwill then. After it gets to a certain color it is supposed to be thrown out so you associates are supposed to find the product and throw it out before the customer does. Seems like the reason it is supposed to not be sold is because it shouldn't exist because possibly the sale may have been fixed/inspired by someone specifically trying to cheat the system and NOT paying a higher price for it. Customers would ask me why they throw out those things when people could be buying the. I think main answer is because corporate wants you to pay more sooner.

No. Every item gets marked with a color. Color changes every week. So current color that is marked by associates will be marked down in like a week to 25% then 50% or something like that. I'm a bit vague on it since I worked there like 12 years ago or something. Once the item DOES reach like 75% off or something managers tell associates to also hunt for these color tags and remove them from the sales floor and chuck them while customers also hunt for these but can't find them because associates already pretty much purged them out.

I got written up because when I worked there as a supervisor and was younger and a bit careless about what I said a customer was asking me why they did this because we're just throwing out stuff guaranteed to sell since it's so cheap. I just told them "because management is stupid" and an associate heard me and ratted me out and I got written up for it. That's about close to the moment I ended up quitting.

I work weekends at HD. I always walk the store to find and warch clearance items. While building my cabinets, I was able to pick up 22" ball bearing drawers slides for less than $4 a pair. Also picked up a pack of ten European hinges for $6. Saved a ton of money and was able to pick up extra slides and hinges for later.

January and February are the best months to get these clearance items. Usually the left over holiday buys drop to pretty good prices. Just keep an eye and buy them when the last digit of the price ends in 3. It's the final markdown before they get taken off the floor. If the product is almost out, go ahead and buy it. Don't take chances if it's a good deal. With left Christmas stuff, when they are out, they are out. If the product later drops to a lower price, you can return it and repurchase it at the lower price.

Also it’s worth keeping an eye on the Sears website. They have random sales where prices will drop 60%+ for 24hrs on a product, and they always give you coupons and “FREECASH” if you create an account. The online prices are always better than the store prices, so if your local store has it in stock just order online and pick it up an hour later.

I ended up getting both of these impact socket sets for $65 when full retail is close to $200. Grabbed this magnetic accessory kit with a big magnet tray, u-joints and extensions with strong magnets on the end to hold bolts or spark plugs for $16 when retail is $45-$50. 5pc mini pliers set with the double boxed joint and nice case was <$20. >...
Ever heard of brain drain? Socialist countries in Europe and elsewhere subsidize higher education (with tax euros) for their brightest, then those see the shitty salaried job opportunities, the big "fuck you"s built into the system for the self-employed, like crazy taxes from the get go no matter if you earn under minimum wage, zero, or are losing money. I am talking >260 € ($300) a month here in Spain. Which recently they lowered to about 60 € for the first few months and ~120€ the next few, like if that was a great magnanimous gift.

Kek. Craftsman was like the only thing keeping them afloat for the past 10 years. Also much of their stuff is overpriced at full retail, a lot (if not all) of Craftsman is manufactured by other tool companies, not factories owned by Craftsman. If you compare that stuff to the same stuff with a different brand, it’s overpriced at MSRP. Look at the 75pc tap and die set- a few other brands including Gearwrench sell the same exact thing with a different name, it’s $125-$175 from the other companies, but full retail is $220 at Sears. But you can catch it on sale for <$100, and that’s a good deal and they’re going to make it up when the boomers pay $220 for it because “Muh Craftsman”

home depot drill selection pisses me off. They have these cardboard tags that have prices, and then some unrelated drills on display next to them. One of the tags said hammer/drill/driver + impact with batteries/charger for 200. Three guys were looking around for me but nobody could find it. Why is it on display then?

72" straightedge for 3.33
packs of aluminum rivets for about 1.60
pack of 3 flashlights with batteries for less than the batteries cost in the 24 pack

Not at HD but at sears I got a bunch of polishing compound for about 8$, the big pack of 1-4 was like $5 and the 5 and 6 were 1.50 each.

You stop getting coupons after a point and most of the cashback stuff is time limited and requires you pay out of pocket. Unless you're a NEET or retired oldfag it's difficult to actually find the time to dig for the true deals and so most of the points for people will end up either wasted, on groceries/socks/etc, or reducing a bloated price down to a decent deal.

Their prices are better than walmart when you factor in all the stuff, but it's hard to get them down to insane deal levels.

Some craftsman tools are unique. The 2pc impact screwdrivers are made by vessel and vessel doesn't offer that set under their own branding. One of the two is unique to craftsman as well - vessel doesn't offer it for sale. But I forget which it is.

varies, some items that still have a place on the shelf but are being phased out have a yellow tag on them to signify a price reduction while others that are no longer in the sequence of the isle end up on a clearance rack. most clearance bays are the back endcap of the isle or a couple isles over.

Milwaukee M18 7-1/4 circular saw combo kit for $200. The saw was well over $400 at the time but a special sale had the tool-only one going for $250. They were almost all gone, and I was digging around in the back of that section for whatever reason and suddenly found the combo kit of the same saw with a 9Ah battery with a $200 tag slapped over half of it.

I really miss Sears. They seemed to have an unusually high amount of pricing flukes compared to the other DIY stores. There'd always be sale prices left out late or insane typos on the prices, and of course they had to honor whatever the floor price said.

I tried getting Lowes to price match this one when I found it, it's like a $180 kit that was $40 for some reason. Unfortunately they told me to go fuck myself (in politer words) and I could only get the Sears one.

To add on to this, when I bought my tool chest, it was something like $400 off the sticker price for a sale that ended 4 days prior. I watched a manager at the old Sears in North Austin chew out like three people as he begrudgingly rang it up for me.

>> No.1501365

Fun Fact, "Home Depot Doesn't Do Rain Checks" in California if the advert doesn't read "While supplies last" they have to give you rain check or comparable/better product at the same price on the spot, It's law. I had a store first refuse me a raincheck when they ran out of a deal on Ryobi tools. (I know, I know) Showed the store manager (politely) the law and punishment, and he made me a good deal.
