I know diys didn't just start in the 2000s so do anyone know of any diys (sites, channels, etc) from the 80s or 90s?

Not really anon but i have an odd affinity for turning old tech into new shit. Like a cheap version of ratt roding.

Will help bump this for potential. Back when a cable modem box and a seperate router were common i shoved then both into an old vcr with plexi windows

80s and 90s had a strong consumer slant, people where really into buying and the overall view was that the only people who made stuff for themselves were poor, old, or crazy art people. Things were less extreme away from the major metro areas and people tended to be handier in such matters, but it was not DIY, it was just part of their life.

The current idea of DIY fad seems to be more about doing something to prove you can do it and socializing, then moving on to the next thing instead of cultivating the new skill into something that makes your life better.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s. You may be right but in my case it has always been 100% autism. Dad didn't help much with that. Lol. Anytime one of our friends got a jungle gym or mary go round or something dad would grab the welder and a few buddies and beer and make one twice as big.

Worked out great for making friends. Was poor as shit and everyone always wanted to play at my house.

in my country the 90s must have been great, everyone threw shit out all the time and it all went to the local dump.

You could just drive there and pick things up. Nowdays everything is locked up in Recycling Centres because they can make it pay.

I did that for a few months. I hear now it is under lock & key and they are making bank with it. I think the way subsidies are handled is why they make money now. Before it cost them money to recycle.
