Hello /diy/, I'm a Oil&Gas analyst and I would like to know if it's possible to join a broken pyrex glass tube. I have a burner and muffler. I hope it would be possible.
Pic related. The thinner one is broken.

Sry, it's muffle instead of muffler

wtf the water section of that bong is pointless, also the slope of the bowl tube is all wrong.

That's not for smoking purposes. And it doesn't matter. What I would like to know if it possible to join the little pyrex tube by heating or something.

Yes, MAPP gas (real mapp not the home depot shit) or oxy-propane or oxyacetylene will work. Find something with a sharp flame and maybe a "swriling tip" (supposed to up the heat). And don't worry the flame from your lighter when you toke it next time won't get nearly hot enough to fuck up your repair.

>> No.1413253

you will fuck it up if you try to do it yourself, guaranteed. Take it to a glassblower who works specifically with scientific apparatus. They exist.

not if he buys an annealing oven

Dont listen to this jackass. Its easy to fuse borosilicate, all you need is a torch. Place pieces together, heat till it softens, apply a slight amount of pressure, and viola, the two pieces will fuse.

Cheaper glasses will shatter however, and need uniform preheating to work.

>> No.1413393

Try cleaning it, then slipping some glass tubing over it like a sheath and torching that on the ends to bond to the original apparatus.

If it's borosilicate glass, you can fix it with a propane Bunsen burner. It's pretty straightforward once you have the hang of it, but it takes a careful touch. Practice on some spare tubing first if you have it.

>Oil&Gas analyst

That's a fancy way to say stoner

>I would like to know if it's possible to join a broken pyrex glass tube

yes. Borosilicate glass is much more forgiving than traditional glass and can be hand-annealed after joining.

Uniform heating before joining, a careful touch while joining, and good analysis of the glass using polarized light and an analyzer, followed by gentle hand annealing, will make for remarkably strong joints without needing crazy shit like a furnace or a lathe.

is your friend

if you need to bullshit a polariscope, break a pair of cheapo polarized sunglasses in half. one lens behind glass with light source, one lens in front. rotate front lens until light is almost blocked from the source. hold glass in between.

Possible? Yeah. I've had success with even a simple lab grade butane/propane burner without any added oxygen or air on small borosilicate tubing. I wouldn't use it for anything dangerous involving heat afterwards though, especially without properly annealing it.

Bad idea

If there is a glass blowing place nearby take it to them. I have 2 that rent booths, and a few private places that make art. Any would duo the repair for you

This.

Unless you wanna build a kiln to cool it.

There is an anonymouse glass blower in my town of 500 people. My buddy bought a bong in wichita and caught him making a delivery. Not sure why but he swore him to secrecy. Asked my buddy to see if he could ask that guy to give me a few lessons and he said he knows me and likes me but fuck no.

Sadface.

I know a guy who once turned $300 into about $80,000.

Never even used the shit. Did it one time and put a down payment on his house. Kek

This is only tangentially related but I dont know where else I can get some input on this. Do you think a meth recondensor is a legit idea? I was thinking about how the clouds you blow out have to be pure unadulterated meth thats simply going to waste. A simple glass or steel rig you can toss in the freezer and chill should immediately recondense everything, then its just a matter of running a modest amount of water through it to dissolve everything and recrystallize.

Pretty sure that real MAPP gas is banned.
It hasn't been produced in like a decade.

Buy a new one they're literally cheap AF if you go direct to a glassblower instead of going through middle men.

>> No.1417752

You need a cutter to score it on either side of the pipe and break it for clean cuts. Then you need a Propane/Oxy torch like a 3A or 6B with some custom shades so you dont melt your eyeballs out. Set the flame up for pure propane and heat both ends a little. Then add oxy to the flame and heat both ends molten hot by twirling in the fire and join them in the flame. Pull it out and hold it as straight as possible with the slightest tug until the joint solidifies and cover it in vermiculite in lieu of not having an anealling oven. Probably cheaper to buy a new one.

Yes this would work.

It is stupid, but it would work
