So much truth to that. Most youtubers and even people on /out/ simply never had anyone teach them anything correctly.

>> No.1374406

Pocket83 has some really relaxing and interesting videos, to me at least. I just like to listen to someone talking while they're building something.

>> No.1374418

EC for his depth of knowledge and how well he communicates it to the audience.

Matthias Wandel for his engineering approaches to his projects. My wife is an engineer and loves his videos. Sometimes we'll have a beer together and watch a few.

Cody Wranglerstar because he posts an interesting array of videos on many different subjects. I know people here aren't fans of him but I think he makes some interesting content.

>> No.1374480

>> No.1374745

Matthias Wandel and Jer's Woodshop for their - as it has been mentioned - engineering-like approach.
Most others have either gaudy "MUST SEE/YOU WON'T BELIEVE/SMARTEST SOLUTION EVER" titles, intros on every video or are jock full of paid promotions, ads and other bullshit.

I also like johnsonrestoration but it's just furniture restoration, not "diy".

>> No.1374758

Any one that starts a title with "This" is automatically disqualified. It's become a ridiculous trend and is usually followed up with shit that >>1374745 mentioned.

Essential Craftsman has to be a favourite but he took me a couple episodes to get into because the first video I saw from him had a "I know everything" vibe to it. I can't remember which one but it's hard to shake it.

I live AvE for the kicks but he can drag shit along a little too much and he needs to expand his vocabulary beyond chooch and skookum.

Wranglerstar is so fucking dry and boring I can't get 30 seconds into a video before being reminded about a MySpace vlog.

I like chukE2009 because he fucks up and still puts it on tape. It shows me what I could be doing if I ever finally decided to buy that welder I have been looking at.

I used to enjoy human and his chainsaw videos before he started doing non-chainsaw videos

Sometimes youtube suggest those popular ones because I searched for something like controllers...
And it pissed me off sometimes when you want specific detail but those granddads rant about why they chose this + shape screw driver instead of - shape then opens his drawer at shows like 20+ screwdrivers there. For fucks sake, get to the point already and show me what is that terminal for because I have no clue and don't have schematics.
Fuck I have 4 screw drivers, 2 small, 2 medium. You don't need more. WTF.
It is entertaining to see things like blacksmiths on youtube, because I will never do it and I don;t want to, but again 50+ videos making only Damascus everything? fuck off.
I myself understand people that live in the city and have never been to a true craftsman's garage and touched any tool, find entertaining+useful stuff on yt when they move to their own homes and are forced to do stuff themselves to save a buck.
I had a classmate when I was in college studying elec.enginee,, once I brought my cheapest makita for practical works so it can be done faster, gave it to him and told him to change the head to smaller one. He was just holding it in his hand and later asked how to do it. What can you expect from a guy that played WoW since 10 year old.
It's not father issue on your skills, it's your own game.
Do you guys learn something from these dads on youtube?
I found it interesting to see hidraulics insides on ave, but everything else is nah...

There are plenty of tricks of the trade that people that have been in the trade can show you, so you're bound to pick up something here or there. But I wouldn't say that I learn anything much from watching Mattias or Clickspring, but it gives me insight to the craft and a better overall understanding of how I'd do something similar. When I was a kid I used to watch king of random (before he went to shit) and kip kay religiously. Now I just like watching and listening to older 'expirinced' guys like AVE and Diresta. ZNA has been good to me for years but lately its been frustrating because he's been too proud to take on third party sponsors for his videos and complains about not being able to pay for his house and support his wife all at once.

>fatherless generation

Being 17 and having a father that teaches you things, let alone willing to learn things along side you is almost non-existent nowadays. All my friends that have the ability and will to make are either self taught or have learned from friends. we are kinda on our own now. nobody my age is interested in learning new skills or want to fix things. Half the time when I want to have an actual discussion or need help trouble shooting I end up going to my gen X english and math teachers.

Had a good laugh when he gave his Spontaneous Junk theory: "with a large enough pile and enough time, a bunch of junk will eventually turn into something useful."

Also, the utter fucking madman modified his saw to cut slabs of boulders: https://crosssawmill.com/stone
