I've been noticing the quality on some stuff at Lowes is worse than at Home Depot. Plumbing stuff has better reviews and in my experience has lasted far longer. Also got them whirly ball vent at Home Depot over Lowes. HD had the name brand that used ball bearings, Lowes stocks a brand that uses a plastic bushing that breaks in months. I tend to look online now at reviews on both before I buy stuff. Also makes it easier too because both websites tell you exactly where the item you want is.

I strongly prefer Home Depot. I am a tradesman and HD has what I need most of the time. They are also more conveniently located. I like Menards but there isn't one close to me and my jobs vary over the tristate area so on the off chance I need to pick up additional material I end up at a HD.

I usually visit HD but go to Lowe's on occasion. I frequent HF and Ace, as well. My Ace is pretty sick. They have a very comprehensive fastener section as well as brewing supplies.

a guy at home depot gave me a discount on acrylic because the sheets i got were lables 5$ but he rung them up as 2.70$ sheets, never gone to lowes because its in a far part of town.

I go to OSH even though it costs more than Home Depot. My Home Depot is horrific. Employees will literally run away from customers to avoid answering a question. It's the only place I've ever "stolen" something from, I was buying a few things with a length of cut chain. The cashier Laquandisha couldn't figure out how to charge for the chain, she just started sulking and rolling her eyes, told me I had to go back and find someone from that section to get the price. I said no, call them over, and she just sat there with her arms crossed and eyes rolled, I just walked out the door with all my stuff right in front of her. My OSH has a bunch of nice old boomers working there.

Where I live, HD seems geared more towards contractors and hardware, their lumber section for example is way bigger. Lowes is a bit more like a department store for consumers, for example their lighting section is like 4 times bigger than HD's.
