Hello, /diy/p shits which is better, Lowes or Home Depot?

Where I live the Lowes is shit. Home Depot is better but I still wouldn't call it good. At least I can get screws and stuff there that the heads don't twist off when you have only driven them half way.

From what I hear the quality of your local store depends a lot on the purchasing agents for it. The best store we have in town is an Ace but the Ace the next town over is fucking garbage. So, YMMV.

Pretty much, yeah. They might as well be the exact same store, around where I live. Virtually no difference in product selection or price.

But the nearest Home Depot to me is way closer than the nearest Lowe's so...Orange > Blue, I guess.

Home Depot has better in-store tool selection, and slightly more bougie. Home Depot is the Targhey to Lowe's Walmart. However, Lowe's is better on order delivery, and doesn't make you wait a week to receive something that has already been delivered from a regional distribution center the way Home Depot does. Also, Home Depot will charge your card right away for this 1+ week delay so that they can earn interest on your money right away.

I've been noticing the quality on some stuff at Lowes is worse than at Home Depot. Plumbing stuff has better reviews and in my experience has lasted far longer. Also got them whirly ball vent at Home Depot over Lowes. HD had the name brand that used ball bearings, Lowes stocks a brand that uses a plastic bushing that breaks in months. I tend to look online now at reviews on both before I buy stuff. Also makes it easier too because both websites tell you exactly where the item you want is.

If you need the shit today, go to the store.
If you can wait, go amazon or online
If you know what company manufactures what, order china.

going as far up the supply chain as possible is always the best way to go.

beyond this, I got nothing, my main uses for hardware all come down to things I need to make myself anyway, so much of the time i'm just using anvils and hammers on stock metal.

Only retards don't go over to Home Depot and get them to beat the price on everything by 10%. Plus they do an 11% rebate any time Menards does and they're way faster.

>Only retards don't go over to Home Depot and get them to beat the price on everything by 10%

Except they dont sell the same shit so there is no price matching. And they are more expensive for pretty much everything so you have to get a price match to not waste your time.

I strongly prefer Home Depot. I am a tradesman and HD has what I need most of the time. They are also more conveniently located. I like Menards but there isn't one close to me and my jobs vary over the tristate area so on the off chance I need to pick up additional material I end up at a HD.

Story time
>Be Black Friday one year
>Checking out tool sales, stocking up on things
>Stop by HD first, couple hours after opening
>Greeted with genuinely friendly staff
>Offered snacks, cookies, coffee, hot chocolate, etc
>Merch lined up orderly, etc
>Positive experience

Proceed to Lowes

>Enter into a ghost town
>Have to wander around all over, no shippers or sale items line up
>Can tell it was bare minimum effort, if it qualifies as that
>Make way to back of store thinking maybe sale items in back
>Pass by 3 employees standing beside bullshitting with each other, none notice or acknowledge me

I worked retail and I generally hate people, but you are working and in uniform, at least have the decency to say hi or nod your head

Quite frankly I refuse to accept that too.
Pointing some other people as to where something is on a shelf doesnt demonstrate that you have concrete knowledge in something. It proves that you are a minimum wage shelf stocker. And just because you grabbed coffee for people on a construction site when you were a minor doesnt prove much either.

Why when your father is running construction are you going to college?
You should apparently have years of experience under your belt and working knowledge of the field, with family and other networked connections built into your life.

Instead you are going into debt to get into some degree in some saturated field, where you have no experience or connections and hope to make it out alive?
You are full of shit, or you are retarded. Maybe a little of both.

> is everyone that unwilling to accept that sometimes young people know more than them?

Odds are, you dont. You grew up and currently live in a world where everything is throwaway
Boomers working a retirement job grew up where things were user serviceable, and everyone had an industry job. Your normal everyday man was handy back then, being taught by actual old timers who knew their shit.
Realize that a boomer took 4 years of shop class, back when it was actual real shop class being taught skills everyday. His high school education probably taught him as much or more than your lowly 6 years of overall knowledge you apparently posses. Then take into account the 40 or years of him applying it in the real world.

I'm starting to think you were that guy in the store. My god you're retarded. Good news is your time is up and people like me will own your kids and your kids' kids. The world won't miss your kind. Goodbye.

I wouldnt want to continue talking to me either if I were you either. Sorry you expected your horse shit sob story to go over well, when its clear you are just a BSer bullshitting.
You have your head so far up your ass you wouldnt last a day on a real worksite.
Young people tend to lose the arrogance and attitude real quick, or you end up working at home depot.

Depends. Want rope? Lowe's. Good lumber? Lowe's. Cheap lumber? Home Depot. Drill bits? Home Depot. Cordage? Home Depot. Good selection of screws and nails? Lowe's.

+1 for Menards superiority

you go in Lowes and Menards Harbor Freight Home Depot and others but Menards store just feels the best
also menards has the best price on somethings. got some coupons n sheit
every once in a while they got 11% off or whatever give you a Menards gift card for that 11%
mail in rebates

>> No.1368559

It's subjective. I keep a mental library of which place has better inventories of particular niches.

Home Depot is definitely the place for hand-tools or tool rentals:
>muh Dewalt, Milwaukee, Ridgid, Makita, Metabo, Tryobi, Klein. HD's Romex prices are unbeatable, even by wholesalers.

Menards is a solid Jack of all tier. Their plumbing and flooring departments are exceedingly better than both HD or Lowe's.

I don't shop at Lowe's very much. Home Depot has email receipts, and this a huge plus for me professionally. If you want quality lumber; go to a lumber yard. Ace or Water's is a must for hardware.

>> No.1369797

I have been in lowes home depot menards and one or 2 more in the last few years

menards is definitely best around here

I was just looking at 4x4 untreated 8 foot long
menards has them for a little less than $8
Lowes also has them for a little under $8 but the ones at lowes are only 6 feet long

I was told by Lowe's corporate marketing team when we were doing a training seminar for company vendors that Lowe's is geared more toward "women" since they carry more fashion items and have a cleaner look.
