Shed build! First time really building anything. Have kind of an odd location for an odd shaped shed... Already built the floor and foundation. It will be L shaped, with the long section being tall (about 8 feet floor to rafters). The short section being more of a shelving area for gas cans and the like. The long section will be where the mower is parked. Overhead storage for things. Some space on walls. Door to long section will be a pull down ramp. Whole thing will be against a walk out basement wall. Part of the funky shape is to not block window. Will not be fixed to house, though may be caulked etc where siding of shed meets foundation wall. Have to put up the back wall first. For ventilation purposes I envisioned the back wall being bare studs, open to the foundation wall and the slight gap between. Do I need to do anything with the back wall since there won't be any OSB to stiffen it from torsional stresses?

Here is a shitty night time pic of the floor that has been exposed to the elements for too long without a shed on it. The window in the upper right is why the short section of the L will be tarded.

>> No.1303544

I guess I've settled on a few strips of OSB even if the whole back thing isn't sheathed. I haven't managed to find other solutions I like.

Carpenterfag her, Build the green walls first attaching them to your foundation with redhead or equivalent anchors, then build the blue wall attached to the green walls. Keep the blue wall 1" off the foundation. As long as you build everything square and plumb it will be good to go.

Wow. A diagram! Thanks for taking that time! I like that solution. But I need to avoid actually affixing it to the house... For reasons.

I have a wall! But I built the low part slightly too high... And now I will have to do something weird with the window to keep rain from getting behind the shed. Fuck.

>> No.1304983

I guess I could maybe set the depth on the circ saw and lop off the nailers on the right and the joist to bring the low wall down... But not sure how to get at the corner stud where it meets the tall wall. Wondering if my jigsaw has adjustable depth and I could keep it from bouncing off the parging... Otherwise would be in there forever stroking the hand saw one way. Ugh.

i hwve nothing to contribute, but ill bump the thread for you OP. more power to you.

Bought a reciprocating saw. Think I have room between house and shed wall to get it in there. Picking it up again tomorrow.

Well that worked nicely. Gonna level it up a touch more but a 70 dollar tool saved my butt. First time using a recip and this came on:

Hmmm... So I have been end nailing in some places but trying to toe nail in others. I just realized... At my corners I am constructing like pic attached. If I already have the bottom plate down, I can't end nail... But there wouldn't be room to toe nail the left and right studs (with the nailer between) on both sides... What do?

I just ended up toe nailing both sides of the stud on the end... And then toe nailed the one accessible side of the inner stud. Seems fine. Done for the day...

The big side will have a pull down ramp to enter the end. Mower, shovels, string trimmers etc. The small side will basically be a ventilated cabinet for gas cans and the like. Not yet sure how to frame those... But the way my back and forearms feel I think I have a week to figure it out.

Looks like you'll get light through your window, but the view will look like a tunnel.

>> No.1306167

>>1306132

It is a tiny basement window on the dark side of the house. The tunnel effect shouldn't matter unless someone remodels the basement.

What are you pointing out with waterproofing and sloping roof... Freaking me out.

OP here, you caught me. I'm planning on laying a cot out long ways, then peering through the window as a bull ravishes my wife.

After copulation, I will lay on my cot, pleasuring myself while simultaneously crying and begging God to take me because I am too weak to do it myself.

OP why don't you make the shed a little bigger, if you going through all this trouble?

>> No.1306436

>>1306431
It is fitting in a specific place. There is a walk-out to the right that I need to be able to get stuff in and out of, hence the L shape. Plus it's too late.

>> No.1306593

Since it is cold as shit today... I'm just working in what the cabinet and door sides of framing will look like. But as I'm doing the door framing, I'm also realizing my initial idea of a draw bridge style door/ramp is a little complex. Having difficulty with the design of it because I'm worried about under engineering, over/under building it.

>What are you pointing out with waterproofing and sloping roof...
I'm just asking what you're doing with regards to those things.
Having a sloping roof means that rubbish/rain water doesn't collect on top of your shed.

>> No.1307916

>>1307829
Oh gotcha. The big section will slope much like the house roof.... Somewhat severely. Off to the left. The house downspout is there and I will just connect to that... Possibly rain barrel while at it. The smaller section will have an almost flat roof. I think I'm looking at a 3 or 4 inch drop from back to front. Will probably just have a drip edge there since that is rain that would fall on the concrete anyway. Thanks for the Q!

>> No.1309803

For some reason yesterday I had a lot of problems with wood splitting, warped/bowed studs, bending nails, and friggin knots. The front left corner which would be the most visible and probably structurally strained part (due to the door) is awful. There is like a half inch gap at the top where it meets the side wall, where it bows away from the wall. It is just terrible. I'm not sure what to do about it other than nailer plate things... Very discouraging.

Slightly off topic... Wife noticed how forlorn I was at encountering a road block... And apparently had been sitting on a plan to make the kids a better arrangement for their make believe and cross dressing stuff. She had actually been riding around with most of the wood in the back of the car for a few weeks. So today using the joinery jig that I imagine most of DIY hates, a drill, my miter saw, and jig saw, we fabricobbled this together. Sanding and staining will commence at some later date...

C clamp, two mending plates, and a corner brace will allow me to sleep tonight... Got the corner looking OK. Will the wood eventually accept this twist or will it always want to burst forth?

I went ahead and threw up the plate and far joist, tried to use it to twist the corner stud straight the other night. It didn't work. The earlier post with mending plates did.
