Just got my hands on one of these for the ATX mod. Anyone else here done it?

>ATX mod
Explain? Are you stuffing a PC into an old Mac? I don't see the rationale. The old Mac pro case was cool around 2007. Then they turned it into a waste bin, and it became a laughing stock.

>because the new model is a literal trash can it makes the old ones bad by association
I don't get it.

I've wanted to do it for a used dual xeon rig or two but haven't had the time. Not sure if an EATX board would fit in there?

No one except a few reddit hipsters are actually into that aesthetic now. The favored aesthetic now is Fractal Design or NZXT style minimalistic boxes

Fuck the haters, OP. Its still a pretty box on the outside. Whats an ATX mod? I thought the boards in those old macs were ATX or eATX to begin with?

If not, you need to remove the side panel, mark where the ATX posts go, drill a hole, and use suitable nuts. That sheet metal is too thin to tap.

Just don't rice it up with LEDs n shit, its a classy design already.

Also, the biggest problem with these cases are cable management. It has none; its just a big open box, you can't get rid of the optical drive bay, and its poorly insulated for sound.

Cable management is a meme.

Not on a G5, I did a few Blue and White and a single Quicksilver G4 though.
>macfags gonna hate
They were better as Core 2's, I swear.

get a tap and die set if you don't already so you can make the threaded holes for the mother board standoffs.
Dremel to get an ATX standard backplate.

And hell, since you've got the room - why not Custom loop watercooling ;)

>>1296695
Nah G5's were still propriety form factor, at least the PSUs since B&W G3 have been standard ATX though.

Who cares? I don't think OP is making it to please you lot...

Mostly it is, but if you have cables everywhere fucking with airflow, you're not helping anything. Also, well placed cables can help with dusting off parts regularly.

>>1296726
TIL. I'd probably skip hand modifying a case like this and just go for a Lian Li lookalike, but fuck their $400 price tags.

The word you are looking for is gimmick.
