I have a large cat. He wont fit in any plastic litter boxes. His face hangs over one end and his ass over the other and he shits on the floor because why not.

I'm looking to build a custom litter box out of wood and I need to know what kind of heavy duty coat I can put on the wood that will be waterproof and durable enough to withstand cat scratching and wear from scraping with a metal scoop.

I was thinking of something like rhinolining, but it doesn't seem like you can just buy that stuff in a can.

THANKS

Cement mixing trough. Our old cat was normal sized, but notorious for peeing outside the litter box, so we got him a trough, and he was happy with it. Visit your nearest DIY store and see what you can find.

I'm heading out to the store right now to find a rugged bin that I can maybe just put inside of a wooden box. Problem is that the wife doesn't want "a plastic bin full of dirt and shit ruining the decor". So I have to make it look nice.

That's actaully not a bad idea. Thanks.

Still need a coating for the inside of the wood box though.

I use a concrete mixing tub for my fatty McFatfuck cat. Just go get the biggest one they have at the hardware store. They're designed to keep their structural integrity under big sloppy fatfuck cat dumps. The angles of the two sloped sides provides entertainment for fat asshole cats to kick shit rocks across the floor and easy dumping of turd medium into the trash can. I guess you could plop one in as a liner for your fancylad's custom wooden crapper. Ooh-la-la!

Just glue some plastic material in there and silicone the seams. Polystyrene sheets are probably cheapest. Or get PVC/vinyl, EPDM/rubber, PMMA/acrylate/plexiglas, polycarbonate/lexan, whatever.

Almost certainly cheaper than throwing a ton of plastidip or similar at it, also more durable (especially if you use a hard plastic).

Using bed liner spray, in a can, on a cardboard box that you've glued up to be a large as you want and any shape you want with high wall or whatever, will be much more suited for budget and design. You can coat the inside and outside with the spray. As far as aesthetics go, you can use different colors if you get the stuff used for an air compressor.

A friend of mine has a livestock rubber feed tub (like pic related) that is 1.5 feet deep and 4 feet wide. It is used for several cats. They are really expensive though.

Use a big Rubbermaid tote as a litterbox and use a serrated knife to cut it shorter if the cat won't jump in it.

i've seen people just use like those hard plastic kiddy pools and fill them with sand or kittylitter.

could just cut the top end of one of those plastic storage boxes and sand or melt te edges so they arent sharp.

Using two kiddie pools, one inverted and used as a lid for the other, would be the best, cheapest solution. Only if the size is right for the OP. Most are fairly large.

either just a tray or let them outside

Has a cat. Worried about 'decor' which is almost certain to have been clawed and scratched to hell by now.
