I don't see a glowing shit thread, so here we go. Last thread was excellent and got me started off.

Here's my Tron desk. Brace for a blurry photograph of the progress so far.

You should kill yourself. Make glowing shit.

If you swear too much, the words lose all meaning.

If you use too much light, light loses all meaning.

In the same way swearing works best when used sparingly, light works best when it's against the dark.

I'm leaning towards using tape on the outside, but then I have to fuck around with wiring, which I can't do right now.

erm no, i sort of inferred that you might have might know about that sort of thing. let me re-iterate though.
I want to make a lamp by stacking a bunch of CDs ontop of each other and running a light source down the hole in the middle. I've been looking at EL wire just now, although I havent found any that isnt from some ghetto ass site, or thick enough. ideally it wants to fit snuggly inside the spinde hole, altho i suppose i could just use some sort of clear pipe to make up the difference. the other problem with EL wire is that it doesnt actually seem that bright. I might compliment it by drilling additional holes into the CDs and running extra cables through it, or lighting them from the bottom using high intensity LEDs I guess. any tips/advice?

EL Wire might work fine. It's less bullshit with the wiring, and it won't be all "HOLY SHIT MY EYES" once the light it makes reflects off the surfaces of the disks. The trade off is that it can be more expensive than LEDS because online retailers tend to think "OH GLOWING SHIT IS LUXURY LOL" and jack up the price.

As I said before, don't go overboard with the light. If you want the lamp to look awesome, you have to make sure it offers the light you need and doesn't try to cover more of the room than it needs to. Lamps look shit if they lift the room up to the same level of light. Contrast, bro. Contrast.

You could try LED rope. They don't look as ass as LED strips, and they'll usually fit snugly into a hole similar to the ones on CDs.

>it won't be all "HOLY SHIT MY EYES" once the light it makes reflects off the surfaces of the disks.
ok thanks, well its going to take a fair amount of experimentation to get the balance right with regard to the CDs anyway i think.

You could do this, but you'd need to run an electrical charge or a florescent light upon it, and even then, it will only glow green in most cases without a filter.

I made a DIY glow in the dark sights. They last for hours after being taken out of direct light. I have to use an indoor range since there are no outdoor ranges in my local area. The indoor range is very gloomy. Having sights that glow brightly makes a real difference. It only cost a few bucks to make on my own.
It was surprisingly poorly received on /diy/. Posters mentioned something about how I am a faggot who loves to suck cocks.

>>118095
Its luminosity depends on how much it is charged. How much it is charged depends on what wavelengths of light it is exposed to. Expose it to UV, it is really bright for a few hours and then fades. Expose it to white light, it is moderately dim for a few hours and then fades. I'm going to buy some different LEDs, connect them to a battery and resistor in series, keep a few running in my gun safe, and see what kind of charge level I am most comfortable with.
