Recently acquired a couple nes and snes controllers along with soldering equipment.
Looking for ideas, tips, similar stuff you might've put together.

Looks pretty sweet.

Thought that too but emulators dont cut it for me.
Thought of a plug-n-play thing but I'm still novice.

Might do this with one of them looking at some cheap mp3's I could disassemble atm.

Gut the nes and turn it into a arcade cabinet/cocktail table. Turn the empty shell into a mini-pc.

I really like this idea. But I prefer to stay away from wood-work and similar if possible simply because I don't have the workspace.

That case. Good lord. I have never wanted something as hard as this. I think this just might have become my new /diy/ project.

inb4 greentexting what OP said in >>109763 i read it but i figure this may be of interest to someone else.

if you must commit sacriledge OP, you could take the pcb out and put a hinge inside it and use it as a small box [i have a tin like this, however the real thing probably has all sorts of inconvenient mouldings that you would have to remove somhow]. you could put a usb hub and a few flash sticks inside it otherwise maybe.
infact you could probably have a hub, a flash stick with emu+all roms and the chip i linked to above, that would be pretty cool.

The picture isn't mine.
Maybe "acquired" wasn't a good word to use?
I PURCHASED a couple defective controllers from a local independently owned retro games and accessories store with intentions to fix them or make them into something else.
Sorry for being whatever the fuck you think I am.

Does anyone have any more info on this? Everyone that I saw who did similar projects seemed to just make an arcade cabinet out of an old PC and an emulator. I want to actually use an NES.

It's an interesting concept. Did some searching around and found an Instructables guide. Granted, it's a PC thing only - but I think that it can be adapted to fit the specifications of NES hardware.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-a-Nintendo-arcade/?&sort=ACTIVE&limit=40&of
fset=40

I'll probably make a NES Cabinet, and if it works as well as I hope it does, I'll probably rip out the NEW, refurbish that hardware into something else. I'll be replacing the NES hardware with SNES Hardware for a larger library of video games to choose from.

use the iron to melt holes in the cartridges and controllers.

1. Stick the iron in your pooper.
2. Plug in said iron.
3. Play the NES.

Get out. All of you.

>>109811
Especially you.

NES carts, controllers, and systems are not, and will never be rare or hard to find. Think about it, every kid you knew had a system and a pile of games, and you only knew kids in one or two schools. They sold millions of these systems and billions of games. All across America there are boxes full of this shit collecting dust in people attics, closets, and garages. Cut it up, there's plenty more where that came from.

B-b-b-ut I can't nostalgia because of the hipstuuurs.. Whaaaaa Whaaa!!!

Cry me a river you bitches. Did your isp block craigslist? Do you live in a city that bans yard sales? No used game/record/thrift stores in your area to hang out at? Too fuckin bad, guess you should have bought the games you wanted back when you had the chance instead of crying about it now.

Whaaa!

It's called respect. Just because you don't have any for technology doesn't mean you can discourage those who already do.

anyone have any DIY/instructable links where i could build a portable emulator?
Like something that I can have a controller with a usb and just plug it into a usb port on a tv or computer and start playing what ever games or system loaded onto the device?

also can this be done with multiple consoles/games on one device? hope i get a reply :)

I dont have pics, but the electronics inside nes controllers are crazy simple. So a friend of mine took the nes wiring, and basically made giant wooden controller (think 1/2 foot wide, top surface about size of an average desk). It worked but needed two people to play: one for arrows, one for A and B

^inside the controller casing
add a rapsberry pi or some atom-based sfc or whatever to run the emus on and bingo.
