I have this cool old emergency switch that I bought years ago at a rubbish shop. I'm trying to find the terminals on it so I can use it as a switch later.

Any ideas as to where to connect the wires?

Side view. The top is the exact same except 1/3 the length, and only 1 circle panel.

Bottom view. Internal view to come.

You connect them to the switch. The terminals are inside the enclosure.

That's a good idea actually, except I live with roommates.

Here's the internals of the box. There are stubs of a clipped wire, but when I try lighting an LED with the switch, it lights up for both ON and OFF. I believe this behavior is due to the stubs being close to the metal plate behind them, which leads me to believe the wire isn't what electricity was initially passed through.

On the bottom are two slightly sunken, metal panels. These also conduct for both the ON and the OFF states.

Finally, this is the side view of the switch. There were brass screws in these holes. The other side looks the same.

That's an odd one. Could you get a better pic of where the wires were coming?

>>1046572
nvm, those should be your terminals, just buzz out the pinout (or use your led if you don't have a multimeter)

thanks for the help guys. What you said makes sense, and it's still conducting for both the ON and OFF states. I think the switch is broken, which explains why it was at a rubbish shop.

Try using the terminals on opposite end of the switch.

you know you can go to lowesor home depot and buy that same switch and replace it, if you still want to use the rest of it in a project. those switches are like 2 or3 bucks

It's no use, no combination of terminals acts like a switch

Good idea, I'll keep that in mind

maybe i'll disassemble it somehow and either fix or reconstruct it

Time to replace the switch itself. The only bad part about that is a brand new shiny switch might look out of place with the old abused panel.
