Hey /diy/, I got a question.

I'm thinking of building pic related. I think it would be a fun and interesting project that would also be practical, since I could build up shop skills (which I have absolutely none of) and be left with a useful and valuable machine shop tool. But there's one problem.

I have no idea what I'd do with it. Hell, I don't even what what I CAN do with it.

So my question to you guys is, what are some things I could do with the lathe? What are some interesting hobbies people use them for? What about making profit?

Also, feel free to talk about other Gingery books, or just machining in general.

>pic related, It's david generys book on how to make your own lathe. You, actually have to get the first book, which outlines how to make your own crucible, so that you can melt down scrap aluminum and cast the parts for the lathe, then you actually machine some parts with the lathe only partially completed

In the second book, you use simple tools and the foundry skills learned in the first book to cast parts for a lathe, in fact you actually start using the lathe before it is fully completed to make it's own final parts. It's a very precise metal cutting lathe, he even outlines how to make your own cutting bits for it.
