Why are the IC-7100 and FT-991A in the same price category?

I see both sides. I'm glad when it starts and am glad when it's done.
The March ARRL SSB contest allows a brief window to quickly collect DX from flyover USA. I'm very close to a SSB DX thanks mainly to that contest.
Equally, I earned my WAS mainly from the October ARRL SSB Sweep.
The behavior of contesters disgust me between the QRM and the lack of sportsmanship.
I heard a net yesterday complain to an Italy station about interference and his retort was
>yea yea, the contest will be done in 20 minutes
It'd be nice to see the bands more active during periods outside of contests. That'd devalue the 'need' for contests.

Has anyone played radio in the military?
I have a few degrees and am an Extra. I realized the max age is 39 now, up from like 32.
I wouldn't mind making a career change to play radio ...

I 100% agree and I am an extra class license holder. I still find joy in building antennas and doing QRP stuff out in the woods or the local park. I get shit on all the time because I operate in the park and don't have some official 'park ID' or whatever stupid made up regulation the larpers came up with. I just put wires in trees and maybe 1 out of 100 people have something interesting to talk about, I guess it's a lot like 4chan desu.

what kind of antenna are you using? i built a copper jpole and it doubled or tripled my range. have you looked at radio reference? that should show you all the repeaters in your area. if you can find a local club i would definitely join that or at least attend a few meetings. the old people on the air can be a bunch of cunt, especially to younger users. be nice, but dont take their shit. the frequencies are for anyone to use.
why do you want to use QRP? do you hike, or camp a lot? i would recommend starting with an hf rig first, and moving on to QRP
