https://www.amazon.com/Granite-Surface-Plate-12-Grade/dp/B0035Y7OPC

Its only 52 dollars and it's flat. I use it constantly to re-flatten my stones. Before I got it, I used the flattest stone tile at the home center.

I used some on a plane blade. Its seems to darken the metal. Jury still out. Will do further testing. Any one else experience darkening?

Also I used gloves since the MDSD is hidden on this evaporust. Does not say what ingredients are in it. Might just stick with sand paper for refurbish of old tools.

>TIme is money Then resharpen is the way to go here.
The drive to Lowes Depot, gas, time in traffic. walking to the high security tool section with the beeping cameras, then walking the saw to the checkout, waiting in line, walking back to car, then the drive, then the inevitable stop for gas, or the traffic accident up ahead. Thats about 1.5 hours or so, and 2 hours before you can start sawing again. (unless you have two or more saws).
You can sharpen a saw with a 5 dollar file about 10 times before you need to replace the file. Then have a coffee, and piss break, then back to work for a total of mabye 30 minutes of down time.

I'll be honest, I've never worked as a contractor in my life, so I don't know the rigors of contractor work. (retired bitcoin). But I know when I resharpen my saws, I seldom stop for two hours.

Its takes about 15 minutes to sharpen a saw either rip or crosscut. Including setup time.

veritas depth stop binds onto the threading of the depth controller. That thread space is really small so you have to crank it down to have a good non moving stop.

The lie-nealson is better becase the depth stop binds onto a flat surface. They explain it pretty good on youtube.

veritas blades are strange but neat. Sharpening requires you to dissasemble the blade with a the special included tool. No biggy, but when I'm working on wood I just want to sharpen quickly and get back to work.

I actually decided to skip using a blade/chisel guide and just to it. Results are decent as evidenced by my hairless forearm.
