There's nothing wrong with asking for help on a project or tinkering with an Arduino. The problem lies in the "I have X, what do." It seems most Arduinos and RPis gather dust because people just buy one without rhyme or reason and then can't find something to do with them or have no motivation.

OP: find something you're interested in and see how you can automate/control/manipulate/whatever with an Arduino. I got into uCs because I like lighting.

Numitrons are also cheap and available.

It's funny, you seem to have the same posting style and mannerisms of my "other" haters. Could all be one person shit posting. As I have asked before: where are your projects? Do you have anything you have done?

I write all my own code. I've designed my own boards and programmed it entirely with my own code using Arduino. Now what?

It's you again friend! I have made other things if you take a look in this thread. I have made many more that unfortunately I have not had a chance to work with yet because I'm busy doing other things.

What have you made?

Yep, WS2812Bs. You can get 5M of it for like $40 on amazon/ebay.

Thanks man. It was my first attempt at a sign when I found out it would basically be impossible for me to make a neon sign without getting a workshop.

>>1244221
Thanks. I need to revisit that sign. I need to make the diffusers thicker.

I agree with this. Arduinos make it easy to do home projects and automation, if you get more into it you will probably move past that and just buy discrete components, put it on a drawing/layout, and then prototype it with a bread board. It's really up to you how much you want to get into it.

I don't think you know the words you're using.

Also, it's one of my only projects because I have been busy being a father. It's a good example of someone starting with nothing but "blink this LED" in Arduino and actually making something completely on their own that works. Stop being jealous. Where's your projects? It's been months m8 why no projects?

Nixies take between 160-200V for excitation, but typically there are pre packaged power supplies that will convert 12V DC to a variable output between 150-220V DC. There are tons of designs for simple step up power supplies that you can make yourself, this was going to be my option but without an oscilloscope I didn't want to risk it. Also, you want to know some electrical engineering because it's easy to burn out a binary decimal convertor, or even your arduino if you don't use proper convention and wiring.

If you like the look of the old incandescent style lighting but want to stay in the 5V range check out numitrons. Slightly more expensive at about $3 a tube, but easy to work with. Pic related, numitrons with a nixie.

High output and bright white will probably be hard on the eyes. 5050 and WS2812Bs RGBs wouldn't have a good spectrum either. This would be a tough DIY project because there are way better premade LED reading lamps. If you want to DIY and make your own look for natural white 5050s or WS2812Bs. I do believe the make both.

Yeah, I found his site randomly when I was searching for Nixie information and wound up reading his entire blog. I would LOVE to be able to make some Argon or Helium filled Nixes. Unfortunately I cannot afford the equipment that he has.

Check out my post above yours. The microcontroller is what is at the heart of the Arduino. There is much you can control with it from physical motors to LEDs and high voltage drivers.

Made this with an Arduino and 4 shift registers.

You'll probably run into a bunch of faggots here who are like "tarduino? LOL be a real man and do X, Y, or Z" Don't let these faggots get to you. Most are mad children that they don't even have the technical skills to use a simple micro controller. Also don't let them dictate how far you want to take your hobby/project.
