>why the hell do 90% of woodworking howtos on youtube have tens of thousands of dollars of equipment and expect the people watching to have all this stuff?

YOu can start out with just a little bit of gear up. I'll list a nice basic shopping list, and a few channels on youtube that don't require expensive shop equipment.

Stanley #4 handplane ($15 ebay)
Stanley #7 or 8 handplane ($30 ebay) (luxury item, see below)
rip hand saw ($20) amzn
crosscut hand saw ($20) amzn
you have a hack saw already, so you need blades. ($10) amzn
a flat tile ($2 dollars homedepo)
some sand paper from rought to fine. ($20) hmdepot
chisels : 1/2 inch, 1 inch, 3/4 inch, 2inch ((apx $30 set)
marking gauge ($20) amzn
pencil
knife.
tape measure
ruler

The luxury hand plane is only needed if you buy rough wood. Since you're a beginner, buy wood that is already squared up at the big box store.

Start with some easy projects. Recommended channels:
youtube: paul sellers, worththeeffort, woodandshop.

Those three channels have a lot of easy projects, like a viking chair (woodandshop), garden bench (worththeeffor), and techniques for sharpending, sawing etc (paul sellers).

Anyone please add to the list of stuff for a beginner.

Arts and Crafts house, with an 80's basement. Sounds like previous owner was searching for identity. I would love to have an arts and crafts or a colonial. Currently stuck in a midwest stucco, mexican influenced home, that is common in the southwest.

Stanely hand plane that is considered a "smoother" has a tight throat, super sharp. Often leaves a glass smooth surface when going with the grain. I almost never have to sand unless grain reacted with the BLO.

I make viking chairs and sell them for about 8 dollars of profit on weekends/ garden sales. I can see your lamp selling.

OP here. I was looking for a hand saw that can be resharpened or even altered. All I saw was two saws. cross cut, and hardened cutting edge.
This is called a "disposable saw" apparently. Use it until it stops working, then drive back to lowes to pick up a new one.

You are correct about the wall space and hand planes... but lowes and home depot also sell wood including space taking premium oak, and walnut, so catering to a niche market might make them more money.

I know its all about contractors but don't contractors want something they can resharpen?

Pastor Paul Sellers says to work the blade away from your body. Where you hand holding the wood?
That being said, I'm always slicing my fingers and hands a bit because my blades are soo sharp. I've learned to be careful when working the blades.

How did this occur?

Looks like you are into wood working, so here is a list of things you''ll need, from a hand tool perspective.

-hand plane. #4 and #5.
-chisels
-combination square or machine square (pec tools is good n not too expensive)
-hand saw unless you have a table saw.
-mallet
-diamond plates for sharpening.
-honing compound, and leather strop.
-pencil
-marking gauge.
-also lots of clamps. (you could make your own)
-winding sticks

the above total should be around $300 or so, cheaper if you ebay the planes and saw. There are sellers that sell refurb 100 year old saws and planes.

I do admire that you actually built the table, and just messed up a little bit. (it actually looks nice, cept the juxtaposition of the rough top and smooth legs). You could repurpose the table into a work bench, and use that to build your second table that will be squared, and smooth n pretty.

Nice thread with pics!
