At its best I think it really can be a great cultural movement away from buyfagging, but at its worst it really is pallet furniture and "i am maker, someone love me please" circlejerkery.

I hold the sentiment that AvE is a guy who's wise as opposed to intelligent, into the realm of potential crossover. But either way, be it experience or study, they are both means to the same end, it just depends on what you (and/or your employers) value. My interest in diy and interest in physics used to be completely seperate until I started learning about practical electronics at university. But I like /diy/ much more than /sci/, if only for the occasional diy surgery threads, shipping container shitshows, and other ill-advised ideas.
