My dad was mostly self taught on diy. he wasn't autistic, but almost certainly had aspergers.

he could do almost anything he tried. he had a small shop with a 6 foot lathe, and all the other basic shop tools bandsaw, table saw, etc.

he let me help when he worked on his car.

parents divorced when I was 11 (bitch ass moms fault) and I did not see him again till I was about 25. later in life he owned a fire truck and fixed MTH trains. vascular dementia turned him in to a short circuited "star trek android". I took care of him for the last 8 years of his life, since he took care of me for the first 11 of mine. the last year he was alive he spent in a memory care facility, shitting himself and talking nonsense. he would have been appalled at how he was towards the end. but he was not there to see himself.

I wrote a book about my dad and the last 5 years of his life, and he and I dealt with his vascular dementia. it will probably not ever get published unless I self publish. but it felt good to write it.
